How can I cook pasta if I can't eat tomatoes?

Any ideas??? My doctor told me that I can't eat tomatoes ( raw, cooked or paste). So If I prepare pasta, what should I add to get a nice flavor? I don't want to eat plain pasta.

with a little butter and parmasian (sp?) cheese

with olive oil and spinach or other veggies

with pesto sauce - fresh basil leaves blended with olive oil and a few pine nuts thrown in at the end

chicken noodle soup or any soup with a handful of pasta added

thanks but no cheese or butter for me:(  I also don't eat chicken or chicken soup. maybe olive oil is a good idea. any other ideas?? 

Go Asian cuisine... peanut butter, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, fish sauce... try a stir fry with noodles.

peanut butter with pasta? never tried that. no soy sauce for me. ok thanks.

 Since there are so many things you can't eat maybe you ought to list those so we can try to help you.

ok. sorry I should have mentioned that.

I can't eat soy sauce, tomatoes ( sauce, raw, paste), butter, cheese of any kind, spices, regular milk, anything greasy or oily.

things I can eat but I don't like ( chicken ).

Things I love and I can eat : veggies and fish. Pasta is ok too but I don't like it plain.

I just bought a bottle of carrot juice and use it instead of chicken broth. the vegetables broth that I used to cook with has tomatoes in it. Not sure if I can find any kind of vegetables broth WITHOUT the tomatoes.

Italian lemon herb dressed pasta:  grate the zest of a lemon and juice the lemon.  Add a handful of finely minced parsley and a little finely minced fresh or dried oregano or rosemary.  In a large saute pan - Saute minced garlic to taste in a little olive oil.  Add a cup of chicken broth and the lemon zest and juice and herbs.  Cook the pasta and save 1 cup of the pasta cooking liquid and add it to the sauce.  Add the pasta to the saute pan and toss to coat.  Let it simmer for just a minute to absorb the flavors.  Serve with a grinding of black pepper and chopped fresh basil.  Edited to add: this is very good with some shrimp or other seafood added.

Spaghetti ala Carbonara (without the cheese):  In a large saute pan, chop and fry some bacon, pancetta or Canadian bacon with some minced onion and garlic, and a pinch of red pepper flakes if desired.   Pour off the fat.  Cook the spaghetti.  Drain and put it into the pan and toss to distribute the bacon.  Beat a couple of eggs well and pour into the pasta, tossing to coat each strand.  Stir over low heat to cook the eggs.  Generously season with black pepper, which is where the dish gets its name. 

Asian Peanut Sauce:  Stir 1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter with the juice of one lime and 2 tablespoons of cold water.  The mixture will separate at first, then become creamy as you stir it.  Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce (since you can't eat this, use either salt to taste or some other Asian sauce such as fish or oyster sauce or even anchovie paste), 1 teaspoon of honey, one tablespoon of finely grated fresh ginger, 1 clove of garlic which has been crushed into a paste or put through a garlic press, and 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar.  Season with hot sauce until it is as spicy as you like.  Mix well.  Toss with cooked Asian style noodles, fresh raw bean sprouts, steamed snow peas and sprinkle with chopped fresh peanuts.  For color, you can also add thin strips of red pepper, or thin slices or strips of carrot. 

How about Pesto? Add a tablespoon to a bowlful of pasta while its still nice and hot.

you could try salad or sandwich spreads? or make your own sauce out of fish or shrimp. maybe make very thick veggie soup (wihtout tomatoes) and use that as sauce. Or you could eat the pasta plain with no sauce but mixed with things u do like. Like cook any fish you like, cut it into small pieces and mix it with the pasta so that the pasta gets fish all over! :P

Butternut squash, in the same style fo a tomato sauce. Cut up the squash and boil it to soften it then use some veggie stock to add some liquid and mash it until it looks like a really loose mashed potato. Put a little garlic in there along with some basil and ix that with the pasta. I would even throw some shrimp in there just because i loves me some shrimp.

you can use lemon pepper with artichokes, mayo and mustard...kinda like pasta salad, you can use a brown gravy, onion soup, cream of mushroom soup....all of these add a nice flavor!!

Linguini with White Clam Sauce

In a large saute pan, saute minced garlic, to taste, in a little olive oil.  Add a can of canned baby clams with the juice to the pan and bring to a boil.  Add red pepper flakes if you like, to taste.  Have fresh minced parsley handy.

Cook the linguini and reserve a cup of the cooking liquid and add that to the pan.  Bring the sauce to a boil until it reduces slightly, then add to cooked, drained linguini to the pan.  Toss to coat and heat up.  Top with the fresh parsley.

thanks for the great ideas. Let me clarify. I have to be on a bland diet because I have stomach inflammation. I think I will post a new question asking for recipes. I am really frustrated.

 

why cant you have soy sauce if you can have soy milk?

How about just tossing in some chopped vegetables and cottage cheese?

I'd normally just add a tiny bit of oil and vegetables (for me - that's usually peas & carrots... I'd sometimes make a sauce out of courgettes and sour cream - though, I'm not sure if you can eat sour cream?)
I also like tuna... but I usually make a sauce with tomatoes, so I don't know what that would taste like if you didn't add them

 Usually on a bland diet, you can have no condiments other than salt.  It's a very difficult regimen to stick to, but it's the only way her doctors will get to the bottom of the problem.

You said in your other post that you can't have "gluten" (a protein found in wheat, rye and barley). If this is true then obviously standard pasta would be out as it is made from semolina wheat.

I made a red pepper coulis for a tofu recipe that would taste great on pasta. I'm not sure if it's "bland" enough though!

"This Roasted Red Pepper Coulis is so flavorful! A coulis is basically a fresh sauce and it is great on crusted tofu, seitan, and tempeh!  You will find yourself making this easy flavorful sauce often.  The sauce is very rich tasting with the olive oil and if you watching your calories or don’t like olive oil that much,  I suggest you use half olive oil and broth to make it a bit ligher. You may want to double the recipe if you like a lot of sauce! "

Ingredients
2 red peppers, roasted
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil or a mixture of broth and olive oil [I used 1 tbsp olive oil + 3 tbsp vegetable broth]
1-2 garlic cloves minced
Salt and Pepper to taste

In a food processor add the peppers and garlic. Process the mixture until smooth. Add the olive oil or broth/olive oil mixture until a nice creamy smooth sauce forms. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Heat the sauce slightly over medium heat or in a microwave.
