help doctoring fridge tube biscuits to italian

Quote  |  Reply

making rolls using fridge tube biscuits for bf tonight. he loves 'garlic knots' which use pizza dough  but found THIS recipe using tube biscuits.  based on comments, will replace oil with butter.

  • 400 degrees, 8-10 minutes - should i change this because butter burns more easily?
  • would you stretch them out to tie into knots, leave as biscuit shape or maybe in muffin tins (thinking three ball cloverleaf).
  • how heavily would you coat? want something indulgent for him but concerned to much will affect them baking fully/ properly.

edit: changed link to correct recipe

The only thing I've ever done with refrigerator biscuits is deep fry them. Heat oil in a cast iron dutch oven to 350 degrees F. Drop biscuits in and flip them over and over until lightly golden. They're called "Puffs". When ever I make them for a party everybody loves them. Serve with honey on the side. I make them when I fry chicken.

Do you mean you are going to replace the egg with butter? I wouldn't change the cooking time personally. I don't think using butter will make that much of a difference.

I would tie them into knots. It will look more fancy that way. I can't imagine it would be too hard.

For the coating, I would brush them with melted butter before and after baking. I've always done this with homemade rolls.

Kinda off topic, but I love this recipe for easy cheddar biscuits.
