And not just plain ham and cheese or PB & J. Here's a place for the weird, wacky, surprisingly delicious and healthy, or exotic sandwiches.

I'll start:

2 pieces of whole wheat bread (100 cals)
1 medium apple (95 cals)
1/2 T peanut butter (47 cals)
1 t unpacked brown sugar (11 cals)
1 t cinnamon (6 cals)
Total: 259 cals

Spread peanut butter on one piece of bread. Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon. Slice the apple from top to bottom, stopping at the core and switching sides. Only half is needed but I like to eat the rest. Hehe. Put apple slices on the piece of bread, and put the other piece on top. Toast in oven at 180 C or 350 F for 3-5 minutes. Eat and enjoy. :)

Seriously, this is my favorite sandwich right now. Haha. :)

One of my favorite sandwiches:

2 slices of whole wheat bread

1 TBS pesto

1 oz. low fat mozzarella cheese

1/2 tomato, thinly sliced

1/2 cup sauteed onion

And I make it like a grilled cheese sandwich in a pan on the stove with Pam. It's so good. I'm not 100% sure on the calorie count, it depends on the bread you use but I think it's around 300 calories.

My boyfriend and I also make weird sandwich concoctions, one that's REALLY good that we got the idea from a restaurant has:

2 slices of crunchy toasted sour dough bread

1/2 cup green beans that have just been salted and cooked in boiling water for a few minutes

1 TSP garlic mayo

Fresh turkey slices

2 slices of turkey bacon

1/4 avacado

1/2 tomato thinly sliced

It's SO good, but I have no idea on the calorie count!

Monte Cristo Sandwich (to die for!) Ingredients <!--concordance-begin--> Directions

On a work surface, lay out 2 slices of bread and spread with mayonnaise. Top each slice with the 1 slice of Gouda and 1 slice of turkey each. Put the third slice of bread on top of one stack, and flip the remaining stack on top, cheese-side down, to make a triple-decker sandwich.

Using a knife, cut the crusts off the sandwich (this helps to pinch and seal the ends). Wrap the sandwich tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes and up to 6 hours. (Wrapping the sandwich in plastic wrap, compacts it, and prevents the egg batter from seeping in.)

Combine the eggs and milk in a bowl. Heat the oil and butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Unwrap the sandwich and dip it in the egg batter, to coat evenly. Gently place it in the skillet, and fry, turning once, until golden brown and hot, about 5 minutes total.

Cut the Monte Cristo in 1/2, transfer it to a place, and garnish with the strawberry and orange. Spoon some jam over each 1/2 and serve immediately.

This is one of my faves!

Grilled turkey reuben

Drain and brown sauerkraut in skillet (so it's dry and a little carmelized)

spread honey mustard on one slice of light wheat bread

Put turkey, browned sauerkraut and swiss cheese on bread - top with another slice of light wheat bread and grill (like a grilled cheese)

yum!

My current favorite (A healthier BLT substitute):

Grilled Turkey & Avocado Melt Sandwich

- 2 slices of Whole Wheat bread (Toasted)
- 3-4 slices of Fat-free turkey deli meat
- 1 tbsp Mayonnaise w/Olive Oil
- 1 thin slice of reduced-fat Havarti cheese (or your preferred cheese)
- 4 Slices of Tomatoes
- 1/2 Avocado sliced
- Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)

Toast the whole wheat bread. In the meantime, grill the turkey in a non-stick frying pan (helps to put spray a little cooking spray to prevent sticking). When it really starts sizzling, flip the turkey over and place the cheese over it to melt it. Once the bread is toasted, spread the mayo one or both slices of bread and lay down the Avocado and tomato slices. Grind some black pepper over the Avocado & tomatoes. Then, when the turkey/cheese combo is grilled to your liking, place it on the sandwich and slice diagonally.

A great source of Whole grains, protein, good fat, calcium, & veggies.

300-450 calories, depending on your ingredients.

Monte Cristo Sandwich (to die for!) Ingredients <!--concordance-begin-->

Wow, what would the calorie count be on that one?

My favorite?  An APB panini (or just grilled).

  • Thinly sliced apples
  • Crisped, cooked proscuitto
  • Brie

The apple gives it crunch, along with the crispy proscuitto, and the brie is creamy and gooey.  YUM.

Just to note that having lived in Norway, I've got into the habit of eating sandwiches open-faced - one slice of bread - often with knife and fork.

One of my faves:

1 slice rye or whole grain bread; Dijon mustard, thin-sliced Swiss cheese, deli roast beef, raw onion, lettuce, tomato; top with "1000-island dressing": combination of low-fat yogurt and tomato-based salsa

2 slices bread or a nice crusty bun:

- Lettuce, tomato, sprouts and spicy hummus

- sliced onion, red pepper, green pepper and yellow pepper grilled first then added to bread with avocado and basil

- thinly sliced ham grilled with maple chedder and tomato. ( I know you said no ham and cheese but the maple chedder really kicks it up a notch)

Egg White Omelet Sandwich (240 calories)

Beat egg whites in a bowl with minced garlic, oregano, and Louisiana hot sauce

Let it cook in the skillet flat like a pancake half, and put turkey in the middle

Fold it over to make the omelet and remove from skillet

Spray butter on whole wheat bread and toast it on the skillet with all the spices

Put the omelet in between the slices of bread to make delicious sandwich!

toast two pieces of plain white bread, like wonder, slather each with 3 tbs of Real Mayonaise.

Cook 4 pieces of bacon until crisp, but on toast.

take one slice of Kraft American Singles cheese and carefully spread peanut butter over this, place on top of the slice of bread with the bacon on it. Drizzle Log Cabin over other slice, close sandwich and enjoy!

(totally kidding here folks!!!) Don't try this at home, it may lead to a coronary, or at the very least, a violent stomach ache Money mouth

Before moving to Alaska there was a restuarant in Portland OR that a coworker and I would go to for lunch for years. I had the same thing everytime as I loved it so much. It was a pita pocket, with a little cream cheese, lots of sprouts and  cucumbers, red onions and one slice of spicy jalapeno cheese. YUM YUM

A little strange, but very tasty:

1 slice whole wheat double fiber bread cut in half

20g creamy reduced fat peanut butter

20g slice of onion

20g baby spinach

for approx. 230 calories. With radish, carrot, celery, and bell pepper a nice lunch can be had.

2 slices good whole wheat bread

Mix together:

1 Shredded carrot

2 T Peanut butter

2 T plain yogurt

Drizzle of honey

I dream of this sandwich

At first I thought you were serious... sadly. Hahaha. :) But I mean, there's fried butter too.... heh. (Yuck.)

All your sandwiches look amazing :D I will try them once I get home from vacation. Yumm!

2 slices whole wheat 50cal bread
1 slice 2% american cheese
1oz reduced fat cream cheese (neufchatel)
sundried tomatoes
jalapeno jelly (like the heinie hurtin sauce; ridiculous name, but delish!)
2 slices of center cut bacon

make the bacon, toast the bread, assemble, then toast in the toaster oven or microwave. CRAZY good!

i was bored once and tried this, great if u have a little bit of leftovers.

this is per half sandwhich, as a snack:

one slice bread (i use homemade of whole grain)

about 2-3 spoons black beans

a few slices of bell pepper, your choice what color.

some diced red onions.

put 1/2 slice of bread in panini maker, top with beans, peppers and onions, and other half slice. (this should be piled high) and push down.

It is DELICIOUS! i had some light dressing and spicy salsa to dip, but you dont really need it.

Wow... there are some awesome sandwich  recipes on this forum. :P

1 slice of bread
1 tsp cottage cheese
3 chopped green olives
1 tbsp ajvar

Ajvar is delicious traditional Serbian meal with eggplants and sweet pepper. It tastes wonderful, it's low calorie and very healthy. Although it takes about an hour to make some, trust me, it's worth it! Here's recipe, hope you enjoy it. :) http://easteuropeanfood.about.com/od/vegetabl es/r/ajvar.htm

I'm a self-proclaimed peanut butter addict.

1. microwave 1/4 cup frozen mixed berries for a few seconds, or just leave them out long enough to defrost a little bit.

2. mix defrosted berries with 2TBS reduced fat cream cheese (you could use fat free, but I'm not a huge fan of the taste).

3. Spread on whole wheat bread. On separate slice of bread, spread 1 TBS* peanut butter. Allow both sides to meet in harmony. This sandwich is KILLER if grilled.

Approximately 380 calories.

*If you have calories to spare, I'd TOTALLY go for 2 TBS peanut butter. I'd live off of PB and J if I could.

Also a bit more calorically dense: 2 TBS peanut butter, 1 small banana, and red onion. Don't know it til you've tried it.

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
