Turkey in a paper bag
X-posted in Food
I've googled all over the place but haven't come to a decision. Is there anyone who has actually done this? Is the skin crispy or does it turn out poached? Any tips? I know the fda warnings, our co-op uses plain old paper bags.
Anyone? Help a girl out!

I've never done the paper bag before; my mother usually uses the Reynolds plastic turkey roasting bags, and the turkey comes out very moist and tender in those. The skin doesn't get super-crispy, but it's also not a poached texture- somewhere in between those too extremes.
I imagine you get somewhat similar results with the paper bag.
my mother in law, cooked her turkeys in a paper bag for years. She used to then cover the bag with shortening. They always came out beautife, brown and moist.
I've done a turkey in a paper bag with a can of beer......or with mayo and it comes out delicious. Super moist. I usually take the bag off about 1/2 hour before your ready to eat and turn up the temp just to brown the outside so its crispy !
