Have you ever been in a prison?
Ever accidently tripped over your little dog,( because he knew you were cooking in the kitchen and that you would invariably drop things on the floor and he was looking down and right behind you) and hurt his paw?...such that he limped every time he saw you looking, but not so much when he was chasing the deer outside?
Accidents do happen.
I'd hate to go to prison.
The decor is rotten, for one.
Nobody ever starts a thread about stuff we should lighten up on.
Just an observation.
Only if the pets are white.
Someone shouldn't be executed for abusing animals.
Do you have any idea how much it costs to administer lethal injection? I read that in Texas it costs the government something near $1,200. And furthermore, lethal injection isn't painful so justice isn't really done. Getting raped or assaulted, or even killed in jail is painful.
"If anyone abuses dogs or any pets"
So assuming I got a kick out of hurting animals and this law came into place, I should just find some feral cats and kill them instead? Or hey, what about killing some wild animals? You have to be clearer on that because quite frankly if you think only domesticated animals should be protected from abuse, you're a hypocrite.

Very well played indeed.......

If anyone abuses dogs or any pets I thing they should be in prison for life actually executed because prison isn't bad
In the horrific, awful cases, I completely agree.
No one who drills a puppy's head with a power tool is any good to society.
neither is someone who lights a dog on fire
So, no argument here.

I'm pretty sure this is less than the Hospital billed my insurance for a demerol injection.

Years ago, my (late) husband and I visited a man who kept many dogs and horses. The dogs swarmed me like , like lemmings or bees, anyhow, I was bit.
When I grew up we had horses and dogs; large dogs, little dogs...some 'rejected' by people who got bored with caring for animals; we even had a cat that refused to be drowned. Despite their rough start in life, NONE of these animals ever bit me.
I was startled when I was bit(first time in my life!) and as we drove out of the yard (we were part of a volunteer service), I saw the horses and I was appalled at their condition.
He was reported! by not just me..(he had been reported repeatedly and warned numerous times) and eventually an ARMED force went in to remove the animals.
Despite all this, there were those in the very small town that felt poor Lyle's "pets" had been taken away from him and they were up in arms.
Several of his tortured animals had to be put down.
I remember that this man was mentally challenged. I remember his last name.
I had to wonder what responsibility neighbours had.Or even the merchants that supplied him feed. Or anyone who ever visited him, ever!!!!
But in no case did this poor man deserve to die.

What's the penalty for dressing dogs in silly costumes?
Ugh. I knew I shouldn't have come in here (post 11).
I do agree, deliberate cruelty, resulting in death to children or animals, IMO would be grounds for lethal injection. And it's much cheaper than our taxes paying medical care, food and shelter. People that commit these crimes have no remorse and little opportunity to become "decent" human beings. Their brain chemistry is different than someone with a conscious.

= ) Better a dog be loved too much, than not enough.
Try to think of that when you see some little dog in a poofy dress.
Trust me, they're loved.

That sounds like terrible neglect, but no of course I wouldn't say a mentally disabled person should be killed.
Should he have animals though, or live alone with no one to watch over him? No. I don't think so.
I do see the difference between someone who is evil, cruel, a sociopath etc and someone who is mentally disabled.
In both cases though, they should not be trusted to care for animals.
Yeah, of course Raychelc, I didn't think you would think otherwise,...I just thought I'd weigh in with a real life story that complicates the cut and dry approach.
Actually, I think I'll google the story...hmmmm
I remember recently that a German shepherd was found walking around somewhere with it's face mangled. It was determined that someone put a firecracker in it's mouth, duct taped it shut, and lit it. The report said that for at least 5 days that dog walked around without the ability to eat or drink because of the severe damage to it's face. It was finally picked up and taken to a vet where it was put down.
My heart broke for that poor dog and I hope that if they ever do catch the idiots that did that to it the punishment is severe.

I saw the photo, and it made me so angry I shook. It also made me cry.
They say it was 'kids' (teens or around that age) who did it.
If that's not a sad commentary on our society..I just don't know what would be.
My gut reaction is kill the little bastards.
This was intentionally, horrifically, horribly cruel.
This wasn't oh, I tripped over a dog, or..oops..I left a door open and my dog was hit by a car.
This was pretty flippin evil.
