Add sprinkles to the list of items I don't like either ....

unless they're on a frosted donut.

I like the idea of sprinkles. They're pretty. They're festive. I don't like they way they feel when I eat them. I do like them on a frosted donut. I despise them on ice cream. They get all hard and crunchy and they ruin the ice cream.

What I like less than sprinkles are those dots they put on cupcakes or cakes as decorations. They ruin the texture. The crunch against my teeth and the artifically flavorless sugar taste is icky.

I love colored sprinkles on a white frosted cupcake.  They make me happy.

round these parts, we call em jimmies.

I <3 ice cream with jimmies. I find ice cream kinda dull, so I like the texture it adds. I will agree that on their own...they are kinda blah.

black raspberry with chocolate jimmies.....

*homer drools*

You mean those tiny silver marbles?

They look pretty. But they also look inedible.

I heart jimmies! I once put them on oatmeal and they melted and made such pretty colors!

Those are dragees.

I'm one of those people who doesn't like sprinkles of any kind on any dessert I eat - for precisely the reason you stated:  It ruins the texture and taste of what I'm eating.  But yeah, they are pretty.

My kids loooove sprinkles.  Brownies, cookies, ice cream etc.  When we were at Disney and they saw that sprinkles could be put on krispy treats they immediately had to have one.

Sort of related:  The cupcake fad.  I understand the attraction to a portion sized piece of cake, but what is the deal with putting a gigantic mound of frosting on those things?  My hubby got one during our vacation, and there was more frosting than cupcake.  And, of course, there were sprinkles - because apparently the icing didn't have enough sugar content...

Finally, something we agree on! I hate sprinkles! They are completely useless, except as decoration, and then they add nothing to the flavor of the dish they are adorning! If the confection in questions needs the dressing up of sprinkles, then it has deeper issues that a sprinkle on tip will not fix!!

So, if you hate sprinkles, does that mean you also hate chocolate chip ice cream?

Yeah i have an issue with this too! don't get me wrong, i like frosting, but i LOVE the cake part the most. I find myself eating most of the frosting off the top first so i can actually taste the cake when i take a bite.

For once, I rather agree.

I was obsessed with sprinkles when I was little.  And they would be pretty awesome...if they tasted good.  They make everything look like more fun, but they don't add anything flavor wise.

Let's market flavored sprinkles.  I'm actually surprised that hasn't been done...or has it and I just don't know?

Not necessarily.  Sprinkles are really just pellet sized candy, whereas the chips in ice cream are, in theory, more than just sugar candy - they're chocolate.

That being said, I'm a smooth ice cream fan - most of the time I don't care for a bunch of stuff thrown in, unless it's something complete awesome like Prailine Crunch or Americone Dream.

I hate those things (talk about teeth breakers) more than these. That particular picture is them in a star shape. You often see them as just round dots. They're really hard and crunchy and have no flavor.

Once again, they're pretty and they look festive, but the ruin the cake or cupcake because eating them is not pleasant.

Sprinkles can add fun personality to food.

There's pellets, balls, star-shaped, heart-shaped etc etc... so FUN!

I'll admit... I put these on pretty much everything.

I'll even dump then in pizelle batter.  They are small enough they melt.

One of my favorite flavors used to be chocolate chip, but they used to make it with shaved bits of chocolate. Now it seems most of the brands have thicker chips in them and they're hard as a rock and I don't enjoy chocolate chip very much anymore.

I <3 sprinkles and everything related to them!

I hate anything inedible or flavorless that is added to food.  I understand that they might be decorative or make it look pretty, but it really ruins the experience for me.

And this might be unreasonable, but I get annoyed when I watch the Challenge shows on the Food Network and they construct those huge "cakes"...made out of styrofoam and cardboard and plastic and whatever else.  How is that a challenge?

Actually thrown into a cake batter and let it sit a few minutes and then bake and they add a beautiful confetti color to a white or yellow cake.

Other than that, they just add a hard tasteless crunch to something that would be better off without them.

I do that too.  I love making cake from scratch, but I love color.  I HAVE to color my icing too.
