Any advice gratefully recieved
I am over fifty and of course have lines and wrinkles on my face, they mean I've had a life! ![]()
So my (small) probelm is this, when I get up in the morning and look in the mirror I have to admit I think 'None too shabby, considering your age and you're a Grandma!'. When I apply make up it seems to emphasize the wrinkles etc...I would prefer it to camoflage them.
At the moment I am using Max Factor Colour Adapt face cream, with a loose powder, powder blusher, Max Factor Mascara, Benefit lip plump base before lip stick and lip gloss. I don't wear eye shadows as I have never mastered the art of not looking like a child let loose in Mum's make up bag.
Anyone out there with cosmetic experience? I live in Europe so if you recommend a product can you bear that in mind? We don't always have access to the fab stuff you have in the States. Also I am on a budget so cannot affird to buy expensive product.
I'm over 50, but due to I guess good genetics I don't have many facial wrinkles; some crows feet around my eyes is about it. I think as you age you do have to change your makeup strategy.
I use Bare Minerals foundation; I don't know if it's available in Europe. It is a little pricey, but the container lasts a long time. It looks natural on the face, it's light and it lasts throughout the day. You just need a little bit when applying it, and it does take a little practice to learn how to apply it.
I use both the foundation and the blush. The blush takes a lighter shade than what you might ordinarily use.
You could also google makeup strategies for older women; a quick check and I found this.
Thank you both for the advice and the link, not enitrely sure why I didn't think of that!
I usually Google everything.....
Good point about the powder I'll bear that in mind, Yep there is Cover Girl available in the UK, I live in Spain and haven't seen any over here I'll have a look next time I'm in the UK.
Thank you
I also have no wrinkles or lines, no crows feet yet. I think I'm using fat as a filler (lol) atleast one good thing. I like revlon foundation with sun screen. I think sun screen and keeping face cover with hat for yearswhile out in the year and beach has helped. Wish the young people would realize that now. My grand daught has very little sun on her and uses screen and kids tease her because she isn't tanned. I tell her just wait 15 yrs. I use a cream face cleaner to wash my face. I use foundation, blush, a neutral eye shawdow and mascara. I dont' have alot of gray hair just here and there so get hair lighted a blond shade and it blends in as it grows and I only have to do every 4-6 mo. instead of coloring monthly.
tbf I've always kept out of the sun, and not smoked etc. I think (defo for me anyway ) that once you're through the menopause you lose collagen and your skin is less elastic. I didn't take/ wasn't given HRT over here in Spain. The doctor's attitude was 'Why would I give you medication for something that's natural?'. Thanks for the replies ![]()
No worries....around thirty years of age I decided, if I'm going to have wrinkles then they're going to be happy ones. Give your Mum a big hug she loves you and I can see you love her ![]()
Aren't we men lucky - when I turned 50 I just grew a beard and people think that I look "years younger"... Go figure.

Just some general ideas:
Wash your face with a good cleanser, and exfoliate at least twice a week with apricot scrub or whatever scrub you prefer, and don't put on your makeup without using your moisture cream first. It helps smooth thingsout so the makeup applies more evenly and is good for also not letting the makeup sink into lines as much.
But..let it sit for 10 minutes or so first so it can soak in and not end up all greasy.
As for makeup, I personally use the Bare Minerals powder foundation. I'm not sure if you have it there, but I like it because it's fairly lightweight, yet covers well and is not an oily mess.
It's quick to use and also affordable..although I'm sure prices vary from country to country, so I can't say.
I think I spend about 28 American dollars per container of the makeup, and each one lasts me a few months.
Another idea is also a good concealer. You can dab it on your problem areas and let it dry before applying makeup. I've done that for vicious eyebags, zits, and even just a blotchy patch or spot I hate.
Max Factor makes good ones, and while it's a little pricy..a small container lasts a long time and you don't use very much of it at a time.
Thanks for making a girly topic and letting me get out of my funk for a moment = )
Edit: I meant MAC, not Max Factor. Whoops.

One of my aunts went that route.
Can't say she gets a ton of compliments, though.

Ha ha ha....think I'll give this suggestion a miss guys!! Thx for your input though ![]()
@ raychelc thx for your suggestions you're not the only person to mention bare minerals I'm going to see if I can buy it here in Spain (I know you can in the UK) and what sort of price it is. I moisturise after I've washed my hair and before I dry it, then by the time I've dried my hair the moisturiser has had time to sink in!
