Another PETA Demo - Maybe not the Best Promo for Veganism...
Through the Lens: December 2 — December 8

Somehow, this walking skeleton clad in lettuce leaves doesn't make me want to go vegan...
I hated all vegetarians/vegans because of PETA, before my brother became one and before I met a few others that are real people.
But I still hate PETA and PETA-supporters. Get a life, you weird people. =[ Their ads are ALL gross, as well as full of bs.
That's quite scary.

I'm not all-out anti-PETA - I appreciate their efforts to expose ongoing cruelty by factory farm industries like KFC. Hopefully they can help change the way animals are raised. But yes, they sometimes go too far - like when they came into my supermarket and put "Got Pus?" stickers on all the milk bottles.

Compared to the propaganda-filled scare campaigns they spread, a lettuce-clad skinny girl is nothing.
Just saying, if you're going to use a scantily-clad person to promote veganism as a healthy lifestyle, it would be best to use someone who looks healthy and fit, not someone who looks like they should be hospitalized for malnutrition...
Sadly, I know there are girls on here who look like this and think they're fat, or who look just right, but want to look like this.

I know this is a totally CRAZY notion, but you can be vegan without being associated with PETA and also be a healthy weight. Weird, I know.
And there are probably a few non-vegans who support PETA. I don't think of the two things as synonymous.
PETA... um... I really don't think they've made much progress with their shock tactics. In fact, I think they've turned way more people away from vegetarianism and veganism then would have been had they not existed. I think if PETA weren't around I wouldn't get half the BS from people about my vegetarianism.

That photo right there screams at me "Go vegan. You'll have no chance of ever being healthy." Although I know thats a lie, its definitely the message the photo is pertraying.

You know, I don't think they really make that much of a difference in the long run. Vegetarianism and especially veganism are big commitments that require a lot of care in putting together meals to get good nutrition, and usually only people with a certain outlook on the environment, animals, and ethics gravitate to it, and that's fine. (Of course, I know there are the ED people who want to use veganism as another way to starve, but that's a very small part of the overall population)
I don't think PETA's antics would turn away the people who are considering a change to a vegan lifestyle - they have put too much soul-searching in to be dissuaded by in-your-face shock tactics. But yeah, I do think it's too bad that PETA have sort of positioned themselves as the public face of veganism, when most vegans don't act out in this way.
But then, it's also a shame that we omnivores have jerks who deliberately chew their burgers right in vegan co-workers faces just to be obnoxious, standing for us... Sorry about those types.
As much a shame that we veg'ns have jerks who judge those unlike themselves who choose to eat meat. Omnis have every right to make their own food choices, without having someone scream at them that they are murderers, or whatever. Every group has jerks :P
hm yeah her stomach looks weird in that pic..
Well I eat meat but I appreciate PETA's effort to better the treatment of animals, but I agree that their tactics probably scare off more people.

It's interesting that you linked to those photos. I was looking through news a bit ago and the photo yahoo news chose to show gives a whole different image of that girls body type. I thought she looked sweet and nice looking... and then you showed those pics. Wow... totally different.
Wow, she does look different. Just shows how the camera can play tricks. I wonder which is closer to her true build.
The solo girl with face hidden has longer, fuller, medium brown hair with wavy bottom and what looks like grown out bangs plus a rounder jaw and bit of an overbite.
Cho from the pair of girls has dark brown (almost black), thinner straight hair all one length hair plus a pointier jaw and doesnt appear to have an overbite. Also take a look at the differences in their stomachs. I think the solo girl was mislabeled as Cho and that the original assesment was correct.
And I wish they would try to use something other than sex to sell their message. I swear, if I see one more naked celebrity protesting fur...
Or at least they could start using male celebrities. Clive Owen's a vegetarian, right? Where's his "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" ad?
Boy do I have a lot to learn....
