anyone ever fall asleep at work

Quote  |  Reply

I catch myself dozing at my desk a lot.  I don't intend to and I'm not really that tired.  I think it's a product of being bored.  I fall asleep if I watch something boring on TV too.  Just wondering if anyone else has ever caught themselves falling asleep at work.

YES!!  i fell asleep on the toilet at work once hahah!!

I used to do that at my other job when I was out too late the night before!  Now I just go in there to think and instead find myself drooling at my desk!  I wonder if anyone ever sees me sleeping...hmmm...oh well!  I can't help it!

I've never held down an office job so how I managed to fall asleep is beyond me.  I can understand the time I was really sick, really exhausted from being at work for two shifts, and when I finally got a break I napped in the dining room for almost an hour before someone found me and woke me up.

But the other time I was making a pizza.  Half asleep.  Next thing I know, someone's in the back asking me when I'm going to finish the order 'cause the customer was there.  I fell asleep, standing there with a spoodle in hand for at least a half hour and was really backed up with orders.  Thank goodness my boss never really stuck around during the night and didn't see.

LOL! I fall asleep all the time. I go the the bathroom we have this huge sink that's about 2.5 ft wide and 3 ft long and I get on top of it and turn the hot water on because it's very cold in there and fall asleep with my hand under the running water. I know I'm weird but I gotta do what I gotta do. Most days on my lunch I go to sleep in the kitchen with the heater on. I don't get enough rest at night, but I don't think it would matter if I got 10 hours of sleep. I'd still be sleepy during the day. Laughing

I never get in trouble for falling asleep since I work from home :D.  If you get caught sleeping on the job, here are some things to say:

  1. They told me at the blood bank this might happen.
  2. I wasn't sleeping, I was trying to pick up contact lens without hands.
  3. I wasn't sleeping! I was meditating on the mission statement and envisioning a new paradigm!
  4. Amen
  5. This is just a 15 minute power-nap like they raved about in the last time management course you sent me to.
  6. Whew! Guess I left the top off the liquid paper.
  7. I was doing a highly specific Yoga exercise to relieve work related stress.
  8. This is one of the seven habits of highly effective people!
  9. Boy, that cold medicine I took last night just won't wear off!
  10. Darn! Why did you interrupt me? I had almost figured out a solution to our biggest problem.
lol, sun123, those are hilarious :)

i fall asleep alot at work. i sit at a desk and look at bugs through a microscope. i usually get super tired before and after lunch, and sometimes i rest my eyes on the scope and doze on the scope, or just take a brief doze while sitting up, lol. :P i dont' get enough sleep at night either...

yes i have but luckily theres a doorbell that rings when the door is opened so it woke me right up lol i wa sprob asleep for 15mins

yes i have. and my job isn't even a desk job. i serve italian ice. it was a really slow day and the other person was in the back cleaning some stuff. i was standing at the counter in the window leaning my head on my arms and the next thing i know i'm sleeping. luckily it was only for like 5-10 minutes. hahaha and thank god nobody came to order anything.

I'm going against the grain here and going with never. I can't fall asleep in public - I see people sleeping on buses  or in classes and simply don't know how they do it. I guess I am just not trusting enough of my environment to get that comfortable in it.

During my first trimester of my pregnancy this was a HUGE problem for me.  I would get 9 to 10 hours of sleep at night and still I was utterly exhausted all day like I had run a 10 mile marathon when all I did was walk from the parking gargage to my desk!  (I also had terrible nausea).  So what I started doing was during lunch I closed my office door, crawled under my desk on the floor with my coat for a blanket and fall asleep for an hour.  Really, it still didn't  help much but I was doing everything I could think of to fight the fatigue (and nausea) of pregnancy.  Now I am just into the second trimester and everything is MUCH better.  But yes, I have fallen asleep at work, many times.

I haven't fallen asleep at my desk, but I get SO drowsy in meetings, it's embarrassing. Sometimes I have to pinch my arms until I get welts to stay awake. It used to happen during lectures at library school, too, and it also happens while watching TV and in the movies. My husband has never gotten over me falling asleep in Lord of the Rings. He jokes that the louder the movie is, the more likely I am to fall asleep.

One of the problems if you have a day where you are seriously lacking sleep (which Im not excusing) and then sit in front of computer all day with your eyes reading back and forth across text on the screen - you might as well be doing that visual exercise of counting sheep to fall asleep.

Ive experienced it where Im fine until I sit and start with my eyes back and forth and then its head bob city.
I used to superviser graveyard shifts and I have seen too many people fall asleep standing. One time we were all so sleepy that we had to talk about sex to keep each other awake....lucky that didn't get to the ears of management....

Hmm.  I fell asleep during a physics midterm once.  I was close to finished though.

I don't fall asleep at work, I walk around if I'm feeling that tired.  But a quick glance around my lab (where 3 other people work) indicates that lots of people do.  Two of them have their heads down!  haha.  Maybe I should turn on the radio or something.

I regularly nap at work. I work at a yoga studio and if I go in there looking too pale (which says a lot since I'm known as the girl with the porcelain skin) my boss encourages me to go lay down.

I heart yogis. :D

Wow!  And I thought I was the only one that could fall asleep at the movie theater!  During a meeting (of only 4 people, including me) I dozed off and almost fell out of my chair!  I'm pretty sure they noticed that time!

I'm an ESL teacher and it's not uncommon for me to start to fall asleep when the kids are doing their workbooks and I'm not standing and talking. It happened today... my head was bobbing and my girls started giggling "Teacher teacher... no sleep no sleep!" haha
I'd be in so much trouble if they went home and told their parents... cause the parents call over every little thing. haha

Nope, you're not alone! Actually, even worse than me is my husband's friend who fell asleep during the huge, long, loud battle scene in Saving Private Ryan! I think it might have even done it twice.

I'm glad I'm not the only one, nor the only one who falls asleep in meetings! Smile

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
