Going to a Baseball game... what to wear?

Quote  |  Reply

I am going to a baseball game this weekend and recently purchased a comfy pretty maxi dress that I think I would like to wear.  Linky link here.  (Ignore the price, I got it for a third of that!).

So the team colors are NOT blue and its an outdoor stadium at night in the midwest (high 70's, potential for rain).  I am a 3x/size 20/22 (and a little worried about fitting into the stadium seating).  I think I would be more comfortable sitting for the 2 hour drive, the game, and the 2 hour drive back in the dress (with a spanx thingy under it) vs capris or jeans, but I worry that the dress is too dressy or otherwise inappropriate.

Thoughts?

Capris and a team shirt...and don't forget the baseball cap and sunglasses!  Cool

Ya, I was gonna say ignore him but whatever.

The dress is super cute. Not sure it would be comfortable during the game though.

@Jason... thanks.  Nice to have some [glass bowl] in the morning with my cheerios...

@Sweetpea... I dont have a team shirt!  And my stupid ankles swell so I will probably wear jeans.... which just sounds UGH! to me.  Think the dress is out?

Dress is cute, def, but I was going to go with a hockey, football or basketball jersey from a team that is not from the area.....Smile

I think it is a really cute dress...and it you want to wear it, wear it.  It is a casual look so I don't see why it wouldn't work.  If it is really hot and that will be comfortable then I say go for it!  I don't think there is a dress code at baseball games!  Wink

And I would still wear a baseball cap!!

I don't think temps in the 70s is too hot for a tee and capris (this coming from someone who can't handle heat). If it's going to rain, wearing a dress is probably a bad idea but it sounds like your mind is already made up.

I say wear the dress!! I'd wear it with casual shoes (like flip flops) and a ball cap!

Believe me, I used to work at a ballpark, and some girls dressed ridiculously. Mini skirts, heels, team shirts cut up so much they looked like club wear. Overdone hair and a ton of make-up to top it off. I wouldn't have thought twice about someone wearing a maxi dress like that in the summer.

I dont think it will be too hot, just that I am too fat, if that makes sense.  And I didnt think about the rain/long dress part... ugh.  Mind is not made up as I am worried I will be (look) foolish wearing the dress but uncomfortable in jeans or capris.

I need What not to wear to come make a visit.  And bring me a team t shirt :)

Thanks for the replies, guys.  I guess I will make the bf decide LOL.

wear what ever you want.  if you want to support the team (or at least look like you are), get a baseball cap to go with it.

Jules - did you work at Fenway?  love that place!

Wear the dress if you think that will be comfortable. Probably no one will remember what you wore, and if you go with the jeans, you -will- remember how uncomfortable and miserable you were.

My only issues with wearing a long dress to a baseball game are that long dresses SUCK in the rain (if you know that might be an issue), and it'll drag on the ground when you're sitting (I'm really short though, so it's possible this only applies for shorties).  That's potential to get the bottom of the dress pretty gross given the stuff that's on the ground in the seating area of most baseball games I've been to.

Otherwise, I say wear what you're comfortable in.  You don't want to be miserable sitting for hours in the stadium, and I've seen people wear all kinds of things to games.  It's a really cute dress, if you do decide to go with it, just wear it with flat sandals or something and a baseball cap :)

Wear what ever you want to wear, it's a baseball game not a State Dinner at the White House.  If you're more comfortable in the dress wear the dress.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I go to a lot of sporting events (hockey, baseball, soccer, football, etc.), and I always think the girls who are overdressed just look out of place.  My boyfriend makes fun of them, so I know it's not just me who thinks it look odd.

I say go with jeans and a plain shirt in the team colors if you don't have a team shirt and can't pick one up before.

Heh. We went to a Baltimore-Boston game with husband's cousins, and one girl spent an hour (while we all waited) teasing and spraying her hair just so. Then she threw it up in a ponytail and pulled a ball cap over it. That wasn't even the most ridiculous thing she did that day.

drea, wear whatever will make you comfortable. The maxi isn't too dressy - just a summery outfit.

Anyone else curious what jason said? I missed it.

Yes.  Especially given the response in post #4.

I'm hoping that means drea saw it and can report back :)

Yes i did! Ohh how I miss that job.

I love to wear casual dresses to baseball games.  Cotton, light, breathable, washable - I think they help me keep cooler than wearing jeans.  Wear whatever you feel comfortable in and don't fret about being "too fat" to wear the dress.  You'll look lovely.
