What books are you reading and how do you like it?

I started reading Power Hungry by Robert Bryce this morning. It presents a fairly rational view on energy usage in the US. I like it. If I don't get too busy today I might finish it this afternoon.

Just started reading Where Men Win Glory by John Krakauer.  It's the story of Pat Tillman.  Great book, but really brings in to focus, for me, the fact that we throw around the term "hero" way to often.

I'm reading The Stump Farm by Robert J. Adams (he lives just a few miles down the road). It's a collection of stories based on the author's childhood, growing up in rural Alberta in the 1940's & 1950's.

George Orwell's Homage to Catalonia. It has the perfect combination of idealism and cynicism, and is a nice escape from contemporary politics. The only downside is it is reminding me that I really need to read up on Spanish history.

Super Sad True Love Story by Gary Shteyngart. One part bizarre "love story" and greater part commentary on our world and the not-too-distant future. Very odd but good read.  And more than a little bizarre (not for those who don't like rough language).

Two books I read recently that I loved: Little Bee and Incendiary - both by Chris Cleave.

Eagerly waiting for Ken Follett's new book to come out, Fall of Giants.

i just finished "eat, pray, love".  i didn't love it.  found it really dragged...

just started "fight club"...i have much higher hopes.

Who did? The government covered up the real cause of his death and proclaimed him a hero. Others did because they believed what the government told us...

This thread inspired me to read books that have been sitting on my shelves for years. I find keeping them in the "powder room" helps me read more :P

Right now I'm restarting "good omens".  I was about 90 pages in three years ago, but I'll admit that it never caught my attention so I have to give it a go again. If I get to page 90 again without a spark of interest, I'm donating it.

London by Edward Rutherfurd.

Also biographies about Sitting Bull, and Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Unfortunately I've put them down for far too long.

i'm reading The Time Traveler's Wife [been reading for over a month now], and i just picked up jodi picoult's Change of Heart saturday and i'm already halfway through.

TTTW has been a slow read for me because it's somewhat confusing with all the jumping back and forth of the dates and trying to understand when he's in the present, the future, or the past.  i didn't enjoy the movie much, but thought the book would be different, as most books are better than the movie.

COH is AWESOME as most of jodi picoult's books are.  i've read almost all of her books, and usually get them read in less than a 5 day period.

Just finished Christopher Moore - A Dirty Job. Before that was A. Lee Martinez - The Automatic Detective.

I found both rather enjoyable. Next wil be another by one of these 2 authors... or something by Terry Pratchett.

Brave New World - Aldous Huxley.

It makes me feel ugly inside, but it's so far a pretty good book- not to mention a pretty fast read. I'll pick up something not so depressing next time...

I love that book. Chuck is a-MAZE-zing. But I like his writings- so I'm biased.

Me too. Choke was good.

Moore's vampire trilogy is excellent. I just read the last one (Bite Me) and it rocked. The first one is Bloodsucking Fiends and the second one is You Suck. All three ar eabsolutely recommended.

I love pretty much anything by Christopher Moore, especially his Vampire trilogy, A Dirty Job (which has some crossover characters with the Vamp trilogy) and Lamb, but really you can't go wrong with him.

I loved reading The Time Traveller's Wife; it's one of my favorite romance novels.

I'm currently reading Reinsurance Principles and Practices - not exactly for fun though.

Agreed!  Better than the movie (as always).

I just finished A Clockwork Orange.  Dark, violent, funny, and awesome.

Right now I'm halfway through The Picture of Dorian Gray, which is just beautifully written.  Like poetry.  I've been dog-earing way too many pages with quotes I love.
