Costume ideas for Warrior Dash- help me!

Quote  |  Reply

So, I am admittedly not the most creative person, and I need some costume ideas.  I'm running the Warrior Dash in less than two weeks and trying to come up with something good.  I'm running it with a male friend and we'd love for it to be something funny (i.e. not just a warrior costume).  (For any of you not familiar with the Warrior Dash, it's a 3.5ish mile run with multiple obstacles throughout the course and a mud pit at the end.)

I'd like to find something that I can actually run in (i.e. nothing that will bang around) and that won't be too warm since it will likely be 80-90 degrees out.  I'm average height and (currently) brunette; my friend is tall and blond and kinda goofy looking (he made a mean Napoleon Dynamite with a wig).

We debated doing Wills and Kate since the wedding is just a few days before the race (and since I quite like the idea of wearing a tiny hat on my head), but he thought that a lot of other people might think of that.  He liked the idea of Flava Flav, but didn't want to run with a giant clock around his neck.  But something along that vein - funny, or celebrities, or other pop culture type costumes - are what I'm looking for.

Please help me out!  I'm a Lounge lurker most of the time, so I know many of you are way more creative than me.

What about a cape with something themed on it? A statement..a picture..does it have to be a 'whole' costume?

I am open to a cape with a theme :)  Bonus points if it's easy to make!  I don't care how much or how little of my attire is a costume, I just don't want to show up in my normal running gear.

Adam and Eve with fig-leaf thongs? That'll certainly get you some attention. :-)

Ha!  Not quite that confident, but I have actually seen similar costumes at other runs.  No one wants to see that much flesh when there's running and jumping involved!

Trust me, they do.  :-D

I'm trying to come with ideas but the thought of having to do a run in something kind of spoils most of them. Last Sunday I went to some big garden for the cherry blossom festival (which unfortunately weren't blossoming any more) and there were loads of young people in Manga costumes. Fab, but not practical.

Beachversions of Robin and Batman?

What about Dogg the Bounty Hunter and Beth? hahah That would be HILARIOUS!

Go as Pippi Longstocking...Raggedy Anne...I know, Daisy Duke.

what about something simple like going as the smurfs...? need a white hat, and blue body paint.... pretty easy... and the paint doesnt get in the way of the running, or obstacles....

or popeye/olive costumes?

or wonder woman/superman...?

he-man/she-ra?

lol you could have a lot of fun thinking up sooo many costumes.... lol... wow...

Ooh, I'm rather partial to Dogg the Bounty Hunter!  I like the old school superheroes too, I'm gonna have to google the costumes, though.  Thanks for all the ideas, keep 'em coming!

Azyna - the mud run I did last year had a smurf couple with body paint - it didn't get in the way, but it kind of started to melt (or maybe just wash off?) by then end and it looked like they had a skin disease or something!

Richard Simmons and Jane Fonda - decked out with the satin shorts from the 80's, leotard, etc. ?

Bam Bam and Pebbles

I vote Richard Simmons and Jane Fonda- hilarious!!

I did Warrior Dash last fall and reused an old Halloween costume. I had found the most amazing prom dress that looked just like Belle's dress from Beauty and the Beast! If you can believe it I totally rocked that massive prom dress (so much tulle). I did some creative ribbon work to pull up the front of the dress so I didn't trip but man I ended up running most of it with both hands full of dress, making me look like some crazy fairy running through the forest haha. People could not get over it especially after I was done. So many strangers came up asking to take pictures of me! For added fun I was enjoying a post race turkey leg and beer, dressed now as a muddy badass Belle.

So long story short, you get mad props for rocking a crazy to run in costume. At some point it's go big or go home! However I do warn you to be prepared for your big costume to get crazy heavy by the end with all the mud and water... literally feared I wouldn't make it over the fire at the end!

Haha, that is awesome fhstke!  I'm down for a slightly ungainly costume if it's good enough.  I would love to reuse my Halloween costume (Leela from futurama), but the one eye thing, the wig, and the long pants would be a little uncomfortable.

I emailed my running partner with a bunch of the suggestions and a few of my own.  We'll see what the response is!

Power Rangers

My friend did this as a Halloween costume pretty simply. She basically wore under armor in the appropriate color (t-shirt and leggings would work too) and saftey pinned paper white diamonds on her shirt for the pattern. She also had white socks/shoes, white belt and colored ski masks with sunglasses for the helmet. The costume worked well, though, without the headgear.

My buddy and I are also doing warrior dash and trying to come up with costume ideas.  I have never done the Dash before but it looks like so much fun!  Have you done it before?

What about a superman logo or something.  That would be pretty funny for warrior dash.  The cape idea is a good one!

You'll have to let us know how the dash turns out.  :)

ahahaha jane fonda and richard simmons = win.

have fun at the dash, let me know how it goessssssss.  only a little less than two months for me!  ;)  all I can say is, if I make it through alive, I'm happy.

my friends = lameballs and wanted team shirts and no costumes.  I'm majorly bummin' about this fact.  so be sure to take TONS of pics!! :D

I am with swanxsong, WE WANT PICTURES awestendorf!!!! What ever you chose, have fun! OOooo - another idea - ROCKY AND ADRIAN! You have the dark hair and pretty face, just snag some cute cat eye glasses from a thrift store, put your hair in barrettes or see if you can hang on to a barrett hat while you are running.... You could probably find a sleevless polyester throw back top at a thrift store, wear it with a running skirt?

Not sure how you could darken up your buddies hair, but I bet you could use that colored mousse (do they still sell that stuff?) Just blacken his eye (with makeup, no need to give him a real shiner in the name of authenticity!)

Just an idea.

Edit: added details/links

But yes, PICTURES PLEASE!!! :)

dancerqueen1 - I haven't done the warrior dash before, but did a similar (watered-down) run last year called the Mad Mud Run.  It wasn't anywhere near as big an event and wasn't very well organized, but it was still fun and the costumes there were hilarious.

To all - yes, there will be pictures galore!  Husband is coming along and bringing his camera, and got some awesome ones last time.  Usually the mud pit is right at the end near where the spectators are waiting, so that makes for good photo ops.

DH, a friend and I did WD last October and the guy dressed as a 70's jogger won for best costume.  He even had on an afro wig.  It was great.

Whatever costume you choose, have a blast!  I can't wait to do it all again in June!

Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
