My dog caught, killed and ate a bird last night
I think it's normal for dogs to catch and play with prey.. but eat it?
Why not? How do you suppose dogs survived before puppy chow? They have instincts to eat animals.....

Well, my older cat does this all the time. Actually she only eats the heads, and leaves the bodies on the porch step as a way of providing for us. I asked the vet about it and she shrugged and said, that is was fine. All the crunching on the bones would probably help keep her teeth clean.
She brings me birds, snakes, field mice, and baby bunnies -- all headless. She must love us a lot, lol.
I have come to believe that cats do this because they think we are too stupid to catch our own prey. They feel obligated to feed us. Yick.
When I was younger I tried to catch a bird. Alas, I need the cat to do it for me. ;)
My cat (RIP T_T) used to bring in live animals as well. She once let a little bird go in the living room when I was getting ready for school and it was flying all over the place and banging into the walls. When it crashed on the couch I grabbed it and put it in an empty barred-hamster cage with some seeds... and went to school. When I came home, it ate most of the food and seemed to be behaving normal... I set it free and it flew away. I don't recommend doing this though. :x
She once left us a HUGE dead frog on the welcome mat at the back door. Couple of mice too. Her name was Princess... Princess was looking after her people. ;)
But she died violently (was hit by a car right outside our home) at 9 years old... and I vowed all future kitties will be indoor. And so my current 2 are.
Well since dogs are just domesticated coyotes / wolves it doesn't surprise me at all that a house pet would want to hunt and eat its kill.
I just have problems with mine eating lizards- only becaue they usually upset their tummies and I end up having to clean up the mess later. There is also a toad in AZ that is very poisionous to dogs.

lol, to take you off on a tangent.. My dog one time picked up a baby bird that had fallen from its nest and was bringing it up to the porch... The momma bird swooped down and pecked my dog in the butt.. After about the third time my dog dropped the bird and ran, it was the funniest thing I had ever seen!!!!!... I don't know if they ever ate any of the snakes, and mice they kiled...
I think I would have fallen over laughing if I saw that happen. xD
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
