I think we are battling hard to catch up with the US , though. mainly it is the beer, few Aussies blokes would be seen dead with a bag of doughnuts, in case their Friends thought they were lurking paedophiles

Good riddance to nutritional trash. Feel sorry for the workers who'll be out of a job come Christmas, though. In a way I'm glad they make me violently ill - no temptation!
I never understood how they took off, though, there are plenty of delicious nutrient-free-thing selling shops already.
Hahah 4happyjack, good point, it's far blokier to be seen with a carton of beer than an elegant box of doughnuts. Easier to squish mozzies with, too.
Actually I just remembered that Baskin Robin is also in trouble here mainly cos the aussie holding company appears to be run by criminals

For a minute, when I looked at the title of this post I thought it was some sort of weird recipe. Something like "to make the dough, put a dozen stale Krispy Kreme doughnuts in a blender with a 1/4 cup of milk and an egg...."

I find that post offensive on a couple of levels, one it ignores the fact that we had indigenous peoples which still make up part of the population, two, many australians are immigrants/first generation who have no ancestory from the first white arrivers.

PS - It was a joke, hence the "". My wife is half french canadian, half australian on her dad's side. His ancestry traces back to a guy who was exiled as a highwayman, and a woman who was exiled for stealing bread... so I am *somewhat* aware of what the actual situation is. What I clearly wasn't aware of is how bloody butthurt sensitive some aussies are about it.
