East coast! Help me plan my road trip.

Alex and I are making our way to Connecticut for a concert in December because I can't get out of working today to just see it a few blocks away. :|

We're going to make a little vacation out of it and visit a few places while we're in the area.  Our plan is to either start in Connecticut for the show, then work our way down to Washington D.C. before heading back to Ohio, or start in Washington D.C. and work our way up for the show.

I'm going to need recommendations of cities to hang out in and spend the night at between Baltimore, Maryland and New Haven, Connecticut, bagel shops along the way, and any awesome sights I need to see.

Oh, hey, and the best place to get a cheesesteak in Philidelphia.

I'll eventually need more specific things, but right now just the important stuff.

in baltimore, check out fells point. in philly, get a cheesesteak at gino's. order a "cheezwit."

are you coming into DC or Baltimore?  There is SO much to do/see in DC

i've always wanted to go to stephen king's house in bangor, maine.

Be sure to stop in Trenton, Newark, Elizabeth, and Secaucus, NJ.  Great places to hang out.

Maine must have moved between Baltimore and New Haven...

didn't read the OP that closely.  i and i still want to go to stephen king's house.

...and now you have a split personality. :D

CD - I can't help you but I will go and see if Kallie67 will (she lives in MD).

And PG - I, too, would love to go see Stephen King's house.

yes, we both really want to go.

CD i grew up in CT! new haven is actually a pretty decent city...other than that in CT theres...uh...

give me some time....

naah forget it, drive the 2 extra hours and visit boston, it's kick ass!

Depending on when you're coming, and the weather, you could, maybe should.. spend a day in DC sightseeing.

Are you allergic to using Mass Transportation?

Also, depending on where in the DC area you're going, this might be worth it for you to see.

Just drive up to Canada instead.

 That's so not funny.  Really.

If you get to Philadelphia, try to get to the Reading Terminal Market for a meal.  There are great cheesesteaks there and you'll see all the people who come in from Lancaster county with their wares.  The Amish have a lunch counter with the best breakfast around.  And don't miss Bassett's ice cream.

And ignore that man behind the curtain with the x at the end of his name.

I'd just like to make it clear that after seeing prom pictures from New Jersey, I'm refusing to stop there, even to pee, and will keep all doors locked the entire time I'm driving through there.

We're going to be in DC visiting relatives, but I want to stay the night in Baltimore.

Why are there no mention of bagel shops yet? :|

NYC. H&H bagels is the place to go. And do go up the Empire State Building at night. It's expensive but it's breathtaking.

There are redeeming aspects of all those places (ok, perhaps not Elizabeth).  Heaven knows, they need all the cash they can get. :D

If you enjoy zoos at all, you really need to go to the National Zoo in D.C.  In the cold weather, it's even better because there are fewer people and the animals are more active.  In Baltimore, go to Inner Harbor and you can see  Edgar Allen Poe's house -- It's kind of like seeing Stephen King's house, 'cause they both wrote horror stories.  Wink

Oh, puhleeze!  You have to go right past New York City, you absolutely should spend a day there (and a night) bagels galore along with anything else you could possibly think of to eat.  Go to the TKTS booth on Broadway and get 1/2 price show tickets for the same day.

The tree will be up at Rockefeller Plaza  and the city will be dressed for the holidays.  Wear comfortable shoes and just walk!  You can have a great time.

New Haven is only about 2 hours away depending on time of day you make the trip.

That's such a shame!  New Jersey is a really beautiful state.  Not all of it is in Trenton and Newark and the industrial corridor to NY.  Maybe find a New Jersey tourist website to find out all it has to offer.
