This is by no means a pitch to sell a product, but I have to share this with you all:

I recently purchased a hair epulator (sort of like an electric shaver, but instead of shaving, 40 tweezers pluck out your hair).  I used it for the first time last night before I had dinner.  It's painful and makes your skin feel like it has a sunburn.  The underarm attachment is supposed to minimize pain, and while I was able to complete the procedure, I almost cried.

Anyway, I am not advocating any hair removal product, but I found it to be an excellent appetite suppressant.  I had to force myself to eat after I was finished with my legs and underarms (45 minutes).  Next time you want to binge eat or treat yourself to a high calorie goodie, try removing hair somewhere on your body first!

Regards,

Yeah, I've heard these things hurt like a bastard!

*hugs herself*  I'll stick to a razor for my underarms, I think.  Ow.

Yeah, I tried one of those once - couldn't take the pain at the time, although I don't recall it having any affect on my appetite.

I wound up going laser removal.  Painful, yes, but I don't recall how it would compare with an epilator - and I ate fine afterwards.  The laser treatment pain, BTW - totally worth it, IMO.

I'd actually LOVE to try the laser treatment, but I have blonde hair.  I've heard the darker the hair, the better it works, so chances are I wouldn't be super happy with the results.

I wax my pits...  it's much faster so less pain.

I just bought the very same torture device. I did one anckle. My one anckle was smooth and silky for a week. The thing has a nice trim attachment though. Maybe I'll just trim my leg hair.

Thanks for the tip HDF, but I think I'll stay au naturel!

Even when I try I can only manage smooth for a short while, then I revert to type!

I epilate stray hairs on my body and I recently started doing my legs... the pain isn't that bad and I don't use the minimizer thingies. I can't do the armpits though. Too much pain. Or the mustache area.

Really? I did one of my legs in an area to test it and it took over 6 weeks to grow back. And my legs, after shaving, need to be shaved the next day by the end of the day normally. I was pretty impressed.

I am so envious right now.

Emulators are great, but if remove quantity of hair...legs which haven't been shaved for a while, underarms...

First put a hot flannel on the area, (repeat as necessary), test small patch, if still painful, slap the area then continue.

Job done :D

Slap the area? Like with the hot cloth?

ETA: Emulators?

I don't think I'm doing ... pardon?

No, with the flat palm of your hand...it numbs the nerve endings thus reduces the discomfort.

Ah! Oohhh.

I'll try again. One day.

I bought an epillator for about 65 and used it on a patch about 2" square on my lower leg. And that was it. It hurt like hell! I gave it away the following week. It was not a pain I could cope with for that amount f time. I was embarrassed actually as I'm full of tattoos and have had a lot of piercings in my time but a little bit of pulling leg hair out and I was swearing and shouting and nearly crying! Not a nice experience!

I use my epi-lady gadget about once a week, and have for a long time.

I like it because you don't have to grow hair to a specific length the way you do with waxing, and it's much less messy. I also have a home laser machine (Tria) but that takes a lot of time and multiple treatments per area, so in the meantime, I yank it out.

Sure, some areas hurt, but I have found that over time..nerves die.

It really doesn't hurt me at all anymore when I do my legs or underarms.

Even the bikini area isn't so bad.

Laser, however really hurts around the bikini line.

Oh, what we do to ourselves!

I hadn't noticed the epi lady affecting my appetite..maybe it's not traumatic enough for me.

ow ow ow ow and ow.  Sticking to wax!  You ladies are far braver than I am!!!

I get free laser treatment ( work for a dr that does them)- so far only done bikini area -and yes if you have light hair it won't be effective.

As far as the palm plants- the doc when doing veins will do the laser for 3 clicks then press on the vein to stop the pain- if he does too much of the laser before the pressing you want to punch him

Yeah this is used all the time with such treatments such as waxing...or it should be anyway it calms the sensitivity.

Anyone else getting the nono hair removal add with the disturbing crotch illustration?

It's like how plucking hurts far less than it used to when you first start plucking your eyebrows. Your legs get used to it.
