here's an odd question.
something someone said in another thread made me wonder:
would a life insurance policy still pay out if the holder were executed by the state?
tried to google it, but didn't come up with much. let's be honest, if the drugs don't do me in, it's going to be the chair. i'd like to know that my illegitimate children will be taken care of.
Probably not. Most life insurance policies have an exclusion in case the holder's death occurs while committing a felony. The execution is usually considered a consequence of the felony.
i figured something like that would come into play. there's gotta be a policy out there that will still pay, though.
...and i'm gonna find it.
I actually read all the small print (yeah, who does that?) I was bored.. anywho.. The felony clause is correct. Your beneficiaries can't collect if your death is as a result of a felony. Interestingly.. I had always thought suicide was also an automatic non-payout, but on our policy, if you have held the policy for over two years, they pay. Go figure.
I'd like to ask another (unrelated) question...
Anyone know the most number of un-deleted threads started in any one day by one poster?
Coz I'm pretty sure a certain poster is trying to beat that record.

It used to be a non-payout, but then public opinion turned against the companies. It looked like grieving families who lost their love ones to suicide would be stuck with all the bills because of the mean insurance companies. The two year window is to prevent someone from getting the policy and then killing themselves the next day, so their family can have some money.

I'll try asking my Mom, lol. She mostly handles commercial policies, but she might know this one.

Unless your illegitimate children are specifically named, they get nothing. It goes all to your legitimate children.
And great question btw. very interesting.
