Getting hit on at the gym...

Quote  |  Reply

Ok...not to sound like I'm bragging or anything...

I get hit on at the gym CONSTANTLY.  I mean, seriously...I'm all sweaty, my face is bright pink, my hair is tied up, I probably don't smell that great, I'm out of breath and mostly trying to be unsocial.  What's the deal?  Does this happen to many people?  Do guys go to the gym to pick up girls on a regular basis?

I mean, it's flattering and everything...but seriously, I get hit on more at the gym than I do when I've spent an hour getting ready to go out on the town!!!

Any one with a funny story out there?

I like the girls who go to the gym TO get hit on. The ones who walk around in matching velvet looking track suits with 'juicy' or 'sweet' on the ass, stand there talking to their friends, and then occasionally hop on a treadmill to read their cosmo.

Those are the ones that make me sick/sad. I just look around and all the muscle bound guys have stopped working out and started watching them as they saunter towards the water fountain to refill their designer bottle.

:\  I don't get hit on at the gym. I'm glad for it, because that's not why I go there haha. I do get occasional smiles from other people working just as hard as me though. And we both glare at the girls who strut along on their treadmills lol.

I don't know if this is funny or just weird...

Every year my gym tries to get a couple of new pieces of equipment.  Last january, they got some useless thing that is collecting dust in a corner now, but when it first showed up I thought I'd try it out.  So I spend a couple of minutes poking and staring at it, and then a guy walks up to me and says, 'Hey, have you just joined?  I'll show you around!'

I'd never seen this guy despite coming to this gym for years, but instead of saying no thanks like a normal person, I go with him.  I am extremely introverted and have never been approached in the gym, so I kind of froze, and by the time my feet started moving it was too late to bow out gracefully.  So I spent a half hour following this guy around my gym, nodding and listening to him go on an on about ways to be healthy and which machines were best before I finally got away and ran home with my tail between my legs.  I never saw the guy again.

I'm such a tard, why couldn't I have just opened my mouth?  -_-

I wish I'd get hit on at the gym!

Never happened to me. I'm giving up my gym membership anyway because I stopped going there a long time ago. Bah!

I don't think I'd want to get hit on wherever I go and have it happen all the time or anything, but I have never been hit on in my entire life. How sad is that? Even now that I have the occasional cute day!

I'm either: a) unapproachable b) unattractive or c) a combination of both

I think I'm friendly, and I'm not hot, but I'm not unfortunate either.

I'm a graduate student and while I can use the gym at my University for free, I try to stay as far away from it as possible. There's just something uncomfortable/annoying about girls wearing a pound of makeup and a tiny spaghetti-strap tank walking on the treadmill giggling with friends. (Especially when there are no open treadmills for anyone else to use!) To make it worse, the guys at the gym encourage the behavior. Before I abandoned this gym, I would find guys staring at me while I was lifting, especially if I was using one of those inner/outer thigh machines. I had to start using my gym towel to cover my thighs because I was grossed out by it.

Now, I pay to go to a gym where I can be comfortable. People don't stare at you or make rude comments. You can use the weights or machines without feeling awkward. They even have a policy about no spaghetti strap tank tops! Basically, I'm paying about $20/month so that I can work-out in peace. I think it is WELL worth the money.

I always thought it was rude to hit on a girl at the gym so I never do, but I do get the vibe that some girls want to be hit on by me though. When is it ok, what are the signs? I don't want to come of as a jerk and I go to the gym daily so I don't want it to be awkward for anyone.

LOL! Deathrocket! That is going to make me chuckle all day.

As far as me, I get hit on all the time but that's because I go with my husband and we are one of those annoying gym going couples. However other than him checking me out (his form of enchouragement I might add) it stops there. He on the other hand checks out the young things in between ooogling me.
I'm dating a guy who hit on me at the gym.  Weird, huh?

I was out riding my bike a few weeks ago and got cat called by a girl in a car...didn't get a good look at her or the car, didn't matter I road a little faster on the way back home with a little grin..Wink

I can answer this. I am speaking for myself only.  I don't claim to speak for all men or anything like that. I hit on girls at the gym for three reasons:

1. They're cute and the fact that they are wearing tight and revealing clothing only makes them cuter.

2. The fact that they are at a gym shows they care about their health and are not simply fit because they are "in their prime." Women who are in the habit of working out are most likely to keep it up as they get older (or try to). These women are less likely to be soggy and saggy when they hit 40. My mom is an example of this.  My mom is sort of a health nut and thus works out whenever she gets the chance. For this reason, she is better looking than many of the other almost-50's I've encountered.

3. The fact that they are in a gym getting sweaty and nasty really turns me on. Just kidding. The fact that they are willing to work out and get sewaty shows they aren't afraid of getting dirty.  It gives them a "down to earth" sort of feeling.  And it gives us something to together.

Not for you ;D

I keed, I keed <3

I went to LA fitness with my parents a few months back, and I was wearing these short track short type thingies, a hanes comfort muscle shirt, and my black tennishoes. My hair was all messy and my face was all nasty (orso I thought. haha) and people were constantly looking over at me and telling me how great of legs I have, and asked what the hell I was doing to get them. and I really just got blessed with nice legs...I never really TRIED to focuss on that sole part of my body, but I run, I swim, and I walk like every day...so that's probably why I have nice legs...but the nastiest old sweaty man comes up to me while I'm on the eliptical and tells me, "Damn, you're lookin hot"...err ummm...yeah, I just gave him a "aha" and giggled sarcastically and went on my merry way. It was NASTYYYY. He was trying to say I looked hot physically...and literally. weeeird. but at the same time, compliments feel REALLY good...even if they DO come from sweaty old men...haha!

I was going to the gym for about six months last year and I'm just not comfortable there.  I didn't like passing by the weights or basketball area on my way to the restroom because I generally don't like to be hit on.  It's not like it happened a lot but being oogled while I'm seriously trying to get in shape was totally not for me.  It made me uncomfortable and I had trouble focusing on my workout.  I'm kinda self conscious to begin with.  I quit the gym and started running on the track which I love.  There are parents with their kids out there, running clubs, older people and just lots of good people who enjoy fitness on the track I use.  No oogling either!  :-)

Haha, I resemble that remark ;)

Does a senior citizen making lewd comments about my ass (his words) count as getting hit on?  If so, then yes, once, I was hit on at the gym, but I told him he was innapropriate and when he didn't apologize I told him he wasn't allowed to speak to me ever again.

Heh, I'm too old to get hit on at the gym.  However, I sure do like it when all the hunked up young men scurry to get out of my way when I need to put my dumbbells back on the racks!

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
