Hobbies & Interests

I would imagine that this site collects a very diverse group of people; yet since its focus is weight-loss, that is (often) the topic that prevails.

What do you guys do for fun? Outside of counting calories? :) Does anyone have any off-beat interests?

I'd be most curious to know.

I love to read and I'm an avid bird and wildlife watcher.  I'm trying to draw more, just pencil drawings on plain paper.  I love to cook and I've been compiling recipes for a possible book for years now.  The book may never come to be, because I've posted so many online that I may not be able to copyright them.  But that's ok, I just like doing it.  I like museums, classical music and jazz, and even folk music sometimes.  I love the theater but I'm picky about movies - the more hype the less I want to see it.

Do you travel much with your bird watching, or do you prefer local wildlife?

:) I love classical music and theatre, but I'm not nearly so picky about movies. I was a Film Studies major in school and I have a wide-ranging interest in film. I even spent a year working in film (nothing you've heard of, I promise). What kind of theatre do you enjoy?

i'm wild about reading the classics over and over again. i'm also very into knitting, collecting famous quotations, making fun and new cocktail recipes, as well as rubber stamping. (that's the newest hobby)

Hmm, well I play ice hockey and soccer. Kind of a video game geek. Like to read. I used to dj... hmm what else? Gardening and entertaining :)

I raise sheep, knit, have solar panels, wash my laundry by hand, heat my house and do most of my cooking in the winter on a wood stove, use a modern composting toliet, have a gigantic organic garden... this and that. Well, I farm in central Alberta so I don't really raise cattle as a hobby but I enjoy it. My horses are more of a hobby and I want to get into competitive trail riding this year (I guess since I started running, EVERYONE has too!! lol)

I also love to read and I would really like to start knitting but it keeps getting put on the back burner.

I'm an avid video gamer, mostly simulation games. I play The Sims 2, Zoo Tycoon 2, Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, The Movies and other games like that :)
I'm also an intense reader. I read all sorts of books, mostly sci-fi/fantasy, but not always just that. :)

I really like taking pictures of insects... but since we're in the middle of winter now, there aren't many of those around. Other than that I love going to the zoo. Somedays I'd just like a couple hours to myself to read, but I have a 2 year old who likes to make that difficult for me.

Another bird watcher here. Regrettably, there are few birds around here (Megong Delta, Vietnam) as the hunting pressure is intense. However, great birding to be had in the National Parks. In February i will go to Bach Ma, Central Vietnam, to look for Pheasants, then off to Hong Kong in April for migrants, Borneo in June for just baout everything, and Taiwan in September for the endemics.

And yet another bird watcher here! I have two feeders with black oil sunflower seed, one with thistle seed, two suet feeders, and two platform feeders.  Spent time before leaving for work this morning refilling all of them.  Every February I participate in Cornell University's The Great Backyard Bird Count.  Last year, when I was still teaching, a number of my seventh graders also participated in the bird count.  While canoeing this summer, my husband and I spotted a bald eagle on several of our excursions on a nearby lake.

I am also a black powder coach for 4-H Shooting Sports in our county.  I work with young people to teach firearms safety and to give instruction in the proper use and maintenance of black powder firearms.  My husband in a nationally certified black powder instructor, and my son is a teen coach in black powder and trap shooting.

I love, love, love to read, bake, sing, draw, swim, rollerblade, watch tv (my faves are: Lost, Monk, Psych, Bones, CSI & CSI:NY, Veronica Mars, 24, Standoff, Firefly- it's cancelled though) Play video games, Halo, Lost Planet, The Sims, Zoo Tycoon. I love nature and hiking and a lot more then i can fit here.

Hkellick I love those games too :) I'm so dissapointed, I formatted my cpu then tried to re-install The Movies and it says it's missing a file somehow... boo!

We have 5 bird feeding stations (AND squirrel) in our yard. There is a stream - MILL Stream it is called, just like in the song - and right now it is full. It has 2 waterfall areas where i walk my dog and is quite lovely. We see deer, wild turkeys, hawks, and even a great horned owl. In the spring every year after snow melt (no snow this year so far! What will taht do to the turtles?) a huge female snapping turtle comes downstream to lay her eggs in our sandy soil yard...We have seen the eggs hatch twice - and have watched the babies walk towards the pond down the road.

So, I love nature & animals.

I also have taken up art in the past 7 years. I paint watercolors and show & sell them. I also make jewelry and carved gourd art.

I knit in the winter and garden in the summer. I have a large garden and asparagus bed. Fruit trees and berries, too.

I am an avid reader and go to the library every week for at least 5 books.  I read almost everything. No plays though.

Did you contact tech support? I've never had a problem like that (i've had to reinstall games, but as all my games are legal, that's as simple as plopping the CD in and.. Viola! :D)

But, it's good to see other Sim games here. I always feel the other gamers laughing at me because I'm not into the point and shoot type of games. ;(

I am an extreme person to say the least. I am a musician and I love to play anything from classical to new age and on to speed metal. Christian rock is my favorite to play. I dig t'ai chi, meditation, reading, and poetry. I love power or extreme strength sports. I love to feel the rush. Deadlifting is my favorite hobbie of them all. The pure power of the lift and the pure healthy power of the rush. God is my strength and extreme sports is my high. 

I love skiing but haven't gone in a few years. We live not too far from the Pocono mtns.

I love going to the New Jersey & Delaware beaches, especially Wildwood & Rehoboth beaches... I only get that in about once or twice a summer.

I absolutely love boating! We have a boat & spend every spare moment on our boat exploring the upper Chesapeake! We get together with friends and just hang out and enjoy our time off from work! My husband just discovered boating a few years ago, This is my second boat. We are planning a 10 day trip with a group in July.

I love gardening, home renovations, decorating, being a mother and wife & hanging out with my husband.
