Honestly, can you comfortably leave the house without ANY makeup?

Quote  |  Reply

Make-up, hair product, nail polish.  Ladies and gentlemen, how many of us willingly step foot out the front door completely au naturale?

After torturing myself, waking up before dawn to ensure I had enough time to style my hair, put on my make-up, and make sure my polish wasn't chipped, I opted to spend weekends completely clean.  If that meant showing the world my giant zit on my chin and how fluffy my hair is without serum, then so be it.  It looked scary, many accused me of being sick or near death, but it did certainly change my self esteem and how I doll myself up on weekdays.

I've only left the house without any makeup at all a few times, and it's been either because I was sick or just needed to quickly buy 1-2 things then return home.

I typically wear foundation, powder, mascara, and a bit of lip balm but the absolute minimum is powder and mascara.  I look ill without mascara! :P

I have pretty much the same standard for grocery shopping vs. working vs. going out.  I might wear my hair differently though.

  • Makeup: minimal.  I wear powder, blush and colored lip balm every day.  Mostly, I try to go for a natural look, i.e., as if I wasn't wearing make-up.
  • Hair: low maintenance.  I comb it when I get out of the shower; I don't even have to blow dry it, it stays very straight.  I use hairspray on special occasions.
  • Perfume: a little spritz every morning.
  • Nails: manicure every week and pedicure twice a month.  I keep my nails relatively short and usually wear nude or light pink nail polish.

Why do women think they look ill or ugly or weird without make up but men always look ok and they (well, most of them) never wear make up?

I'm guilty of this too. I think I look plain without make up, yet I never think my husband or brothers or complete male strangers look plain. I don't even think other women without make up look plain or ill or ugly or weird.

I obviously judge myself way too harshly and I bet a lot of you ladies do too.

I rarely wear makeup. Usually only 3-6 times per month. When I do, it's pressed powder, a bit of blush, and sometimes light eyeliner.

I "do" my hair 2-4 times per month. By that I mean straightening it. The effect lasts for 3 days. The rest of the time I wear my hair in a messy bun with no product. The under layer of my hair is dreaded so I avoid hair products.

My only must is my Burts Bees chap stick. This time of year my lips get so dry so I try to always keep them moisturized.

My au natural look looks way better on me during the summer when I have a bit of a tan.

Wow, it shocks me how much effort women put into makeup! :O

I think a little concealer and a small amount of eyeliner is all a woman needs, and maybe some lipstick, mascara, and a light tone of eyeshadow for a special occasion. You should wear just enough makeup so people barely notice you're wearing any. Painting your whole face makes you look fake, and often just makes women look worse!

This is what I do usually:

  • makeup: none, except for some concealer if I have shadows under my eyes. On special occasions, however, I'll wear a little bit of natural makeup.
  • Hair: Used to be pin-straight, but once I hit puberty, BANG! All curly! To keep the curls looking good, I have to put in some spray and curl gel, and occasionally some mousse. And maybe once in a blue I'll blow dry it. It takes forever though, since my hair is so thick and full
  • Body spray: A few spritz of vanilla body spray
  • face: Washed 2x a day with the proactiv treatment, but I actually haven't been using it as much as usual. Surprisingly, though, my skin has remained quite clear. Must be because I've been eating like 400 cals worth of almonds daily lol

and thats it! =D  It makes me sad when I see girls my age and younger who wear a boatload of makeup D=

I don't wear makeup everyday because I don't go outside everyday (work/study from home). I wear foundation only, if it's just a normal day, because I have loads of scars from acne that assaulted my face in the last 2-3 years. And I also have very dark circles.

I like to wear eyeliner and mascara sometimes but I usually don't bother unless it's a special occasion. If I had good skin, or even decent skin I would be fine with going bare faced.

I don't do anything special to my hair.

I hate wearing makeup.  Or rather, I hate spending the time in the morning to put it on.  I very rarely apply makeup.  As for hair, I have a short and easy cut.  It's just barely long enough to pull into a pony tail, which is how I wear it most of the time.

This isn't to say that I'm perfectly comfortable with my body, but merely that my body-image issues aren't related to makeup or hair.

No I have to have make up on even if I do not leave the house, it makes me feel good.

I wear make up daily.

I already look incredibly young, but the acne (for some reason, after I had the kids I suddenly gained acne) and the freckles (my mom's a red head) make me look 16. I don't wear eye shadow, liners, and a whole lot of funky stuff. I just conceal the acne and a full coverage foundation covers the freckles to a point that I almost look my age.

Yes and I frequently do, although I definitely wear makeup and do my hair for work.  Before my skin cleared up I would always at least wear some concealer but not a lot more.  I have dark features and don't really need to go crazy drawing attention to them.

I will admit, though, that I was really stoked to learn about contouring.  I definitely don't do it every day but for really formal occasions or picture days, I love it.

I wore make up for the first time for my college photos and it wasn't enjoyable because I didn't know what I was doing. I don't do it because I have good face or "natural beauty," I'm just lazy and don't put forth the effort. And everyone I know knows my "bare" face, so they're used to it. lol

I kind of feel bad for people who feel like they CAN NOT leave the house without make up and it no longer seems like an option for them. If it's a preference, sure, but I don't think it's good for anyone to be that uncomfortable with their self.

I can and have, but prefer a little for work and more for going out.

I'll put it this way: Today, my Shiloh puppy is vomiting like crazy and I noticed blood in her poop. Worried sick, but having to wait an hour to take her to the vet (they had nothing sooner) I got dressed, but still threw some powder on my face, a dab of lipstick, and combed my hair.

I'm cleaning dog vomit and diarrhea, and doing it in makeup.

Maybe I need help.

Ha. Okay, almost time to leave for the vet!

I hope Shiloh is ok!

Thanks, Bunny! I hope so, too. They've put her on IV, and are running various tests/x-rays. They feel she may need to be held overnight, but they don't have overnight staff which means I'll have to take her to the ER vet nearby. I already called them for a heads up and also to grill them about who will be caring for her, and what the vet is like.

I'm waiting to hear, and trying not to worry, but she's lost another 2 pounds since being sick 2 weeks ago, and that's not a good sign. Usually they tell me she's a bit fat and needs to lose weight, and she is down to 16 from 20.

I'm kind of a wreck today.

But hey, my hair is combed.

I hope your Shiloh is feeling better.

Aww, thanks! as of right now (5 AM because I never slept of course) she is doing well. She stayed at the emergency vet overnight simply because they have staff overnight, but they say she kept some bland food down and can come home at 8 AM.

I thought I might have to take her to her normal vet to have her hang out there all day for more fluids and watching, but she appears to be doing great. Her icky poop test isn't in yet, so fingers crossed it shows what caused this.

Dogs are so much drama.

Oh, and just to be on topic, I'll be wearing full makeup to go get her since

A. I have the time to kill waiting.

B. I look like boiled Hell from no sleep.

I feel better knowing she's fine, even if it's sort of harsh that she hasn't barked or whined once for her Mommy while I've been here pacing over her!

She's just independent like that.

I never leave the house without mascara on and I'm pretty sure my nails haven't been bare in over a year.  However, I never use face makeup!

Hates you for being so naturally gorgeous.  Wow.

No, I can't go out without make up on. Anywhere. Apart from at home..

move to florida....people here really don't care about that stuff...we prefer to be natural

I wear full makeup even while camping!  I could give up getting my nails done if I absolutely had to but not my toes or makeup.

I need at least a bit of powder to even out my skin and control shine (i have really oily skin), and having my hair down (or at least my bangs) is necessary or I feel like i look bald.

usually I just wear some mineral powder, neutral eye shadow, mascara, and blush... I feel I look better without lots of makeup, and I like the idea that if anyone were to see me without any makeup that they wouldn't be like "whoa, do you have cancer?" or not even recognize me at all.

I follow that philosophy too. I wear makeup during the week but nothing during the weekends unless Im going out.  Its really  nice and gives your skin a break!

((((Raychel&pooch)))

I'm terrified of the thought of my pup getting ill. She' had a weird and really aweful sound racking cough twice last night and I promptly ran to the vet today - who just told me to monitor it a bit.
