How many of these household tricks did you know?

How many of these did you know about?

A sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife  under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.  (hmmmmmm...)
============================================
Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them
neat and  you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.
 ======================================= ==========
For icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn  dishwashing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won't refreeze.  (wish I had known this for the last 40 years!)
============================================= ====
To remove old wax from a glass candleholder, put it in the freezer
for a few hours. Then take the candleholder out and turn it upside down. The wax will  fall out.
=========================================
 Crayon marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped in baking  soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).
============================================= ====
Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops (like store receipt  BLUE!) rubbing alcohol on paper towel.
============================================= ====
Whenever I purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, I immediately take a pair of  scissors and cut each pad into halves. After years of having to throw away rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally decided that this would be much more economical. Now a box of S.O.S  pads last me indefinitely! In fact, I  have noticed that the scissors get sharpened this way!
============================================= ====
Blood stains on clothes? Not to worry! Just pour a little hydrogenperoxide  on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood. Works every time! Now, where to put the body? LOL
============================================= ====
Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for inside windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks. Straight vinegar will get outside windows really clean.  Don't wash windows on a sunny day.  They will dry too quickly and will probably streak.
============================================= ====
Spray a bit of perfume on the light  bulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on.
 ======================================= ==========

Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.
============================================= ===
Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least  3 hours prior to burning.
 ======================================= =========
To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag and add the  flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and  leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!
 ======================================= ==========
To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two  of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to a boil on  stove top.
 ======================================= =========
Spray your TUPPERWARE with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato  based sauces and there won't be any stains.
============================================= ===
Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will  keep for weeks.
  ================================= ===============
When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the  corn's natural sweetness.

============================================= ===
Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half, and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away.
============================================= ===
Don't throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for future use  in casseroles and sauces.  Left over wine? What's that? :)
 ======================================= =========
To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area and  you will experience instant relief.
============================================= ===
 Ants, ants, ants everywhere ... Well, they are said to never cross a
chalk  line. So, get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants  tend to march. See for yourself.
  ================================= ===============
Use air-freshener to clean mirrors It does a good job and better still,  leaves a lovely smell to the shine.
============================================= ===
 When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting
to  tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter,
and then  pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.
=====================================
Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer........

Clean a toilet.
Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and
flush.The  citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China.
============================================= ===
Clean a vase.
 To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.
============================================= ===
Polish jewelry.
Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry  for two minutes.
============================================= ====
Clean a thermos bottle.
Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak  for an hour (or longer, if necessary).
============================================= ===
Unclog a drain.
Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain
followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, and then run  the hot water.
============================================= ==
Do your friends a favor. Pass this timely (and some not-so-timely)
information on to a friend! I just did.
Makes you wonder about ingesting Alka Seltzer, doesn't it??

Cool - I wish I had know about the permanent marker trick all week when my two year old decorated her bunk bed.
Any ideas how to get yellow crayon out of a batch of laundry that has been washed?
first: freeze everything and break off as much wax as you can.  then you can put a paper towel over it and try to draw the remaining crayon out with an iron.  Finally, dye everything yellow to match :)
I put a tablespoon of milk in the water when I boil corn. Learned that as a kid growing up in Minnesota (a corn-rich state). It keeps the corn tender.

It's almost the same as sugar by itself, I guess, since milk has a lot of sugar in it.
Hey....thanks. I tagged this one for sure !
"Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half, and rub it on your forehead. The throbbing will go away."

It doesn't stop the throbbing.  You just don't notice it while you are screaming because you got lime juice in your eye.
What a fabulous post!!  I LOVE these kind of thing!!
You put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up.

You put the lime in the coconut; then you'll feel better!  :D
Vinegar works on mosquito bites, too.
Bee stings...

Vinegar, I always keep the little packages you get from restaurants in the car, first aid kits, picnic basket
Great post.. I like the idea of spraying perfume on the light bulb!
Here's a good one if you have children like mine... bee stings

If stung get a penny and tape it over the sting for an hour or so, the copper in the penny releives the sting and also keeps swelling at bay.

this does not work for everybody but it's worth a shot.
A bulb gets really really really hot, so isnt it kind of dangerous to put some perfume on it(a substance that can ignite in intense heat) ?.
i assume they mean spray it on when the bulb is off. the alcohol would then be evaporated so there'd be no danger of it catching on fire!

i love that idea! no matter how often i clean it, my place tends to smell like eau de doggy...
great post..........lots of good ideas.

Oxyclean works wonders on blood stains and that yellow stuff in the arm pit of your shirts. 2 or 3 scoops luke warm water and soak for 2 or 3 hours, may need to be repeated 2 or 3 times but does a great job.

For water stains on furniture.
    1. wash items with warm water & dish soap
    2. let item dry
    3. strip item with furniture striper
    4. us amonia on a rag & hover over spot
    5. stain & polyurithan item
I put tumble dryer sheets ( like bounce ) on my radiators so they make the room smell nice when they are on :o)
All of these are great, but you guys are right, DONT spray a bulb when it is on!!! For the love of God, DONT! I did it and it BLEW UP! I'm lucky I didn't get hurt!
lol, I was gonna say, the perfume light bulb idea sounds a little dangerous. Liquids and electronics just don't go together.
I've tried this before and it really works!  If you need to get lipstick or a mark from pen or marker off of a white shirt, just spray the mark with hair spray!  Then rub it off with a damp white cloth or paper towel.  It's magic!

actually... you can get rid of water marks on wood furniture by rubbing mayonaise into the ring... it moisturizes the spot and gets rid of the ring
