Who knew there was an actual phobia for chewing gum?

Quote  |  Reply

I have always been terrified and completely utterly disgusted by people who chew gum. But I never knew there was an actual phobia, I feel unique now, with my 'chiclephobia.' Heh, I hate it though. This phobia has ruined my relationship with my parents...I will actually break down and cry when I hear people chew gum. It's happened many times in class and I just make up an excuse, I feel so ridiculous to cry over such a thing...

Anyway, just wanted to vent. Anyone else feel the same way or have a phobia they'd like to vent about?

i feel like there is a phobia for just about everything.

It just seemed really silly to be an actual phobia, but I'm glad now that I'm obviously not the only one if there was a phobia name and all created for it.

Oprah Winfrey has it too...! And to THINK my mother said I wouldn't go places and be alone forever because of it, yet look at Oprah Winfrey. Yeah mother!!!

haha go figure.

have you ever chewed a piece of gum before?

I have, but I don't anymore...I would never stoop down to their level. Curse whoever invented gum!

haha i find this kind of funny cause im like addicted to gum. go through packs like crazy.

EXCEPT. my biggest pet peeve is loud gum chewers. actually loud chewers in general. i think it's because of my dad. he sounds like a freakin cow when he chews gum. seriously.

i think i might have a phobia of cotton balls. actually, i just hate the way they feel. ughhh.

10 points in awesomeness to anyone who can figure out the actual name of the phobia for deer.

I've had one since I was 6 (Camping adventure gone wrong) but haven't had any luck finding it's actual name.
It's not as bad anymore, but I still can't cope with seeing a real deer. TV and reindeer at the mall don't bother me anymore though.

Okay so heh heh while I was trying to cheat and find the phobia for deer to eatn my 10 points of awesomeness(although no luck) I came across a phobia of being tickled by feathers...called Pteronophobia

Now that's way silly

I had no idea that there was a phobia.  I'm also disgusted by this habit. I see it everywhere - even teachers and bank tellers, clerks and wait staff.  It's repulsive. Schools allow it now but I will not let kids on my bus chew gum - even those who I take on field trips - and their teachers!  I make them all spit it out before they get on the bus.  Shame on the schools for allowing it.

I totally agree, glamgram. My old school didn't allow it but my new one does...but why? I mean if you just look at the ground, there's gum everywhere...and not to mention how many times I've touched a piece underneath the desks. And then we have them chewers, I try to give them an "omg..." look so they'll get the hint but they're usually too busy smacking on their gum like a fricking cow to even notice.

Move to Europe.

Anyone know what a phobia of ladders is called? I'm terrified of ladders. I just don't know why. I can't even climb the first step *shudder* And it's not a fear of heights...I LOVE rollercoasters and free falling xD. But i'm scared of ladders? LOL

I'm still looking for the deer and ladder one, but as I'm searching some I found interesting along the way:

Arachibutyrophobia- Fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of the mouth

not the ladder, but stairs:Bathmophobia- Fear of stairs or steep slopes

Caligynephobia- Fear of beautiful women

Cathisophobia- Fear of sitting

Didaskaleinophobia- Fear of going to school

Euphobia- Fear of hearing good news

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia- Fear of long words

Lachanophobia- Fear of vegetables

Phobophobia- Fear of phobias

Phronemophobia- Fear of thinking

ok here we go:

ladder: Stepnophobia

deer:Deerapaloozoolapamanyissueytitphobia&nbs p;

cassenyalogan I found the name on the following page you may want to look at:

Thanks! Now I can walk around saying "I suffer from Stepnophobia!" XP.

And wow, it's so ironic--the word for the phobia of long words is so long itself. Haha.

I wish, and maybe I will someday! What's the punishment if they chew gum there? Also, what's the reasoning behind it, is it because people stick it everywhere?

I agree, ladders are pretty scary, I've sort of got over my fear of them though. I like to go on my roof and read, and the first time I did(about a year ago) it took me literally 10 minutes to get up the ladder.

Wasn't there a study that said chewing gum helped improved studying? Like the brain retained information better or that it helped the brain concentrate better?

The only thing gross about gum I find are people who chew it loudly and people who don't know how to place it in it's own wrapper and into the trash.

I chew a stick of a gum a day to get through school... I find it helps my anxiety a bit.

I have a phobia of people judging me. I have a fear of men. I have a fear of being outside (hard to explain) alone. I'm afraid of raw potatoes, lol. I'm afraid of electrical outlets. I'm afraid of the heater because I'm afraid of carbon monoxide. I'm afraid of the dark. I'm afraid of those large helium balloons that people can ride. I'm afraid of deep water and space. I'm afraid of thunder (when outside). I'm afraid of blushing.

I'm afraid of some common things too like, heights and spiders.

I'm afraid of a lot of stupid things. I'm a huge scaredy-cat. Tongue out

tee hee.  Coinkiedink!!  Just before reading this post I popped 4 chicklets.  Well, now I'll be much more conscious of my... chewing etiquette. lol

In Singapore it's also illegal to sell gum ;)

@cpt:  Yeah gum helps me with anxiety too, and those cravings that come along with it.

My coulrophobia (clowns) makes me really irratated every time I see one of the newer McD's commercials with that red haired idiot acting all hip and cool while playing with kids after they shove pieces parts chicken in their face.

But then I watch the zombie clown's head get smashed in Zombieland, and serenity returns.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
