Lasik for the highly myopic? Is this for real?
I was very surprised that this new optometrist I saw today said I may qualify for Lasik, depending on the thickness of my corneas, and it would be definitely worth an assessment before buying implants (hey the ocular kind, guys).
I just saw an ophthamologist in November and my understanding right along was that Lasik was not for the highly nearsighted. Has this changed? Prescription written today was for -11.75 and -11.50 diopters.

I am highly myopic and I went for an evaluation, the dr. was ready to do it, but I wanted a second opinion.
I went to another doc and he said the surgery would help me a lot, but I had cataracts and before he would do the lasik, he would have to take care of the cataracts.
In the cataract surgery he replaced the lens in my eyes to correct a lot of my vision, so I opted out of the lasik.
Point being, I think it can improve your vision. Also, this was almost 7 years ago, they have improved a lot since then.

Thanks, albanygun. I will look around about more on Lasik and see if it really will achieve what I want it to. I would hate to pay for Lasik, get not much improvement, then still have to pay for the phakic intraocular lenses.
