Hey there!

I recently finished reading Eat, Pray, Love and now I'm looking for my next book. I want something thought-provoking. Any suggestions??

I don't know if I'd call it thought provoking per se, but I just finished Midwives by Chris Bohjalian. It's about a midwife in the '80s who has a mother die during a birth and about the trial afterwards written from the perspective of her teenage daughter. It's very good - it might be my new favorite book!
try My Best Friend's Girl. It was great!
The Master and Margarita.... I honestly hate fantasy, but it's written with wonderful humour and sarcasm.

Edit: Mikhail Bulgakov by the way
If you haven't already read it, I'm going to recommend "The Kite Runner" and "A Thousand Splendid Suns".

I've recently finished "A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Child Soldier". It's a great book, true story, etc.

I've never been someone to start more than one book at once but now I've got about 4 going so I stopped to focus on one at a time.

"The Namesake"... it's about an Indian family in the States and this boy grows up with this name he hates and then he learns the significance behind, etc. Sounds boring but it's actually good. There's a movie too that's pretty good.

"Three Cups of Tea"-- this reporter wrote a  book about this guy who has been going around mountain towns in Afghanistan setting up schools that girls are allowed to attend. It gives you a different perspective of Afghani people than what horrible stuff is said on the news.

I like David Sedaris and August Burroughs memoirs. Easy reads but very entertaining.

Supposedly, A New Earth is supposed to be thought provoking and life changing. Oprah is pushing it like nobodies business! lol....I haven't had the money to pick it up, but plan on reading it soon.

I also love Jodie Picoult's books....especially  Plain Truth and My Sister's Keeper. More of an entertaining read, but Picoult is an awesome writer....I love her style.

Thank you all for your responses!!! I haven't read any of those books and will begin leafing through them. I did read The Namesake though. Very good book.

Thanks a bunch! Laughing
