Obama supports same-sex marriage
I've been to a few civil partnership receptions and the most noticeable difference is the dancing is better.
*like*
I'm proud to be an American today! I wish I could say that more often.
In other irrelevant news, I support sandwiches.
...and Lesbians...hot ones.
Hmm, what made him change his mind? Because only 4 years ago he said he was against it. He just doesn't seem very sincere about this particular topic right now.
Good for him.
I think the only reason he did was because there are elections coming up.....otherwise he wouldn't of...he just wanted the publicity...

While I concede that's entirely possible - he is, after all, a politician - if you read the article, it describes how his feelings on the subject evolved over time.
Sometimes changing your mind is just the right thing to do.

So, let me get this straight: it took the President of the United States coming out in favor of same sex marriage for you to be proud to be an American?
Let's see: Declaration of Independence? Nope, just an outline for Democracy
Umm: Emancipation Proclamation? It only cost us a few million American Lives.
lesseee: Liberated Europe from the Nazis? Mere Politics.
oh wait: Put a Man on the Moon? pfft, our closest neighbor.
But just imagine: Obama endorses Bill and Bob having that reception they always dreamed of.
Yes, I am intentionally trvializing in order to provide perspective. I'm proud of the progress being made in this area and think all couples should be treated equally. I only think it should be kept in proper perspective.

We're not all as old as you ok? Just because you witnessed some amazing moments in American history doesn't mean we all did.
This might be the first awesome thing a lot of people have witnessed.
Although, a lot people witnessing the president's support for gay and lesbian equality also witnessed his election in 2008. And a lot of people said that the election of a brown-skinned person (given our country's history) made them proud.
So you wouldn't really think this was the first awesome thing.
Liberated Europe from the Nazi? Seriously?
Yeah :D I wasn't going to say anything, but since you did, I'll agree.
To be fair, fincharella said that she wished she could say it more often, not that it was the first time she had ever said it.
So if it took from Nov 2008 to May 2012 for her to once again feel pride in her country, that's not particularly often. Especially if she isn't as old as Buck, so 4 years is a greater percentage of her total years.
All fair points!

Exactly, first rule of presidential campaigns: Anytime you have the opportunity to publicize a view that is the opposite of the view held by 60% of the voters in an important swing state, you jump on that opportunity.
Heh. Indeed, Sully.
Good job, Mr. President.

I wish more people would concede that fact. Changing your mind is part of growing and maturing.
Yay Mr. President :)
