What do 5 year old girls like?

Quote  |  Reply

I need to buy a few Christmas gifts for an almost five year old girl.  I haven't had a five year old in my house in 24 years.  I have no idea what they like.  Any ideas?

Thanks.  Do they still play with dolls at that age?  How about stuffed animals?

You could always ask. I'm not big on kids, but as far as I know, five-year olds can talk. ;P

If asking her were an option, I would.  Smile We haven't seen her in a couple of years and don't have contact with her mother (long story).  She will be coming to our house for Christmas Eve.

How about a bike? Don't see how you could go wrong there. :D

It really is hard if you haven't seen her or talked to her in-depth. Because I know some five year olds who want gadgets and games, and some others who are just as happy with their scooby doo dvds and kissing lion king plushies.

I thought about that.  The only problem is we live in Minnesota...bike weather won't be here for quite some time.

Dolls

Stuffed Animals

Crayons/coloring book

Stuff to help her read/write

She's 5, that's kindergarten, right?

Possibly Dora the Explorer something....

Um, I'd say Hannah Montana, but that is not something I would allow my five year old (when my daughter was that age, she's 9 now), but I know many that would. Um, dress up stuff (dresses, cheap or fake make up), art stuff, easy bake oven (I know they say for ages 8 and up, but if there is an adult willing to do it with her no big deal. Clothes are generally a good thing: cute boots, dresses, etc. Pillow pets are good.

My 12 year old daughter is an authority on what little girls like. So here we go:

1) Barby dolls and dresses and shoes and ear rings to dress the barby dolls with.

2) Wings Club (I have no idea what that is....)

3) One of those plastic big dolls, like rag dolls, so you can dress them. They are like your baby to care for. And all the cool stuff you need to take care of the baby.

4) A plastic tea set so you can make your own imaginary afternoon teaparty for all your dolls and stuffed animals. Makes them feel grown up.

Hope that helps! (by Lara the party girl)

When my granddaughter was 5 she got a little kitchen and we got her all the foods.  She loved it! Still plays with it at 7 1/2.    This year she's asking Santa for a guitar.

Barbie

Books

Play Doh

Go creative!

paints, crayons, play doh, craft kits

small size guitar, tamborine.......drum set!

and always books

My 4 through 6 year old nieces are big into princesses, castles, arts & crafts, and the color pink.  Then there's the classic bikes and such.  I got two of my nieces scooters this year and one of them a Color-Your-Own four foot tall cardboard castle.

American Girl dolls might be a good bet, but I think they're pretty expensive.

Thanks for all the help.  She will be five in February.  I think I am going to get her a doll, a pillow pet, and something artsy for sure.  Maybe some legos.  Someone at work said Polly pockets.  Not sure what that is, I'll have to look when I go shopping.  I take it My Little Pony is no longer popular?

My Little Pony is most definitely still popular.  Strawberry Shortcake appears to be back in style too.  :)

Little girl appropriate make up.

Justin Beiber crap.  (Yes, even the five year olds are into that weirdo).

Hello Kitty crap.

A princess tent she can set up in her bed room or somewhere in the house.  Kids love those things.

Pillow pet.

Movies, if you can find out which she has and doesn't have so far.  (Princess and the Frog, Smurfs, etc.)

Dress up clothes

Disney Princesses! Every girl has a favorite princess. My husband has a niece who is 7 and we got her a Little Mermaid Barbie that has a loofa and bath crayons.

Sleds were a big hit with the boys this year but I would think girls would be just as happy.

I think that sounds perfect. Five is the best age to buy for because they still like pretty much any toy!

I think all the ideas provided so far are good, but I'll also throw in some science stuff if the girl in question is at all curious about nature or science (The Discovery Channel store is a good source.)

I'll also add that this is making me feel a little wierd.  All I remember wanting for Xmas when I was 5 was a Hot Wheels race track and a Big Wheel.

When I was five I wanted TMNT merchandise. I kept the garbage can for so many years but it broke :( I played with Barbies but I played with lego and He-Man and TMNT a lot more.

As for what five-year-olds like today...I'm afraid I can't help there.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
