Are you an Optimist or a Pessimist?

Quote  |  Reply

I have been giving this some thought and I believe that I am an Optimistic Pessimist (just realised I wrote that the wrong way round) I'm a Pessimistic Optimist ;-)

I always look for the up side in any given situation and my glass is always half full, but I need to talk out or as some may see it moan about the down stuff to get a clearer picture or to find the good stuff.

*Nothing is ever just straight forward with me.....:-))*

Depends on the day.  Right now my half empty glass has it's contents upon my shirt, and if I were not thirsty, I'd be up for a wet t-shirt contest.

I'm a pessimist. All the world is ash and ruins.

Actually, that's not accurate. I'm a cynic first and foremost, which means that my optimism has gone so far it's come out the other side.

I am the biggest pessimist I know. The glass is always half empty and I usually expect the worst to happen. I am not sure why, but I have always been this way. My husband and my family know this about me, but my friends don't really see that side. I know that it can be an annoying quality, so I TRY to be positive. However, inside, I know the truth! Better to be realisitic about things.

My husband, on the other hand, is the biggest optimist I know. It drives me crazy. He is always looking on the bright side of things and expecting the best. I don't really know how he manages it. He says that I drive him crazy. Guess we balance eachother out!

I'm an optimist about everything except politics.

Mostly, I'm an optimist... but I think about certain things, I'm a realist :)

3 optimist and 3 pessimists and me in the middle seems quite balanced to me ;)

Ooh here comes another optimist! :D

"On the bright side.." is one of my favorite phrases to add to anything negative.

I'm still trying to find balance between optimism and pessimism, but I find being optimistic much more beneficial then being pessimistic...

#7, Couldn't agree more

The other day at work I was talking about something and I said "Well its only half full!" my co-worker goes, hey, your an optimist! I was thinking it was half empty! Lol, I said it without even thinking! So I suppose I'm an optimist! Although I think I'm a bit of a cynical optimist. Oxymoron? Nahhh.

I am probably more pessimistic than optimistic, but I consider that just being realistic :)

spoken like a true pessimist :-p

optimist, definitely.  sometimes to a disturbing degree.

The glass is neither half empty or half full.  It's twice as big as it needs to be.

That being said, like meganr, I tend to be optimistic about everything except politics.

My tombstone will say "I knew this would happen."  And I'm optimistic I'll be right.

 LMAO.

I'm pretty optomistic. When I'm being pessimistic, usually I'm kidding and negative to such a degree that I'm just ranting. But we all do have our moments. The unhappy feelings we have only make our happy feelings all the more special and cherished. :]

I'm an optimist well... i was... this year has been the toughest of my life and i'm beginning to think it's going to stay this way and nothing is ever going to get better! Every time any cloud gets a bit of a silver lining. Something else goes wrong. I'm beginning to dread things going right beause it only means something bad is around the corner!

Bring on '09 new year. new luck... i hope....

I can't take much more of this.

16# I know where you are coming from with those thoughts, and people kept saying to me you need to change your attitude! at first I wondered what they meant as I didn't think my attitude was that bad then I realised that I was waiting for it all to go wrong and to be sure it did which enforced my feelings. I finally figured it out. I'll try and explain it,

"if your heart is gently touched it is apt to feel loving, generous and supportive to all around. If your heart is lonely it's apt to feel deserted by everyone on earth. It would be impossible to make rational sense of why things always need to be so extreme, but the fact is you don't need to try to figure it out rationally, you need to accept the fact that this is how you feel."

Not to be taken literally, but I hope you get what I'm trying to say.

I'm a realist.

i am a realistic optimist...

Definitely an optimist. But not blindly so.
