My OverEating and My UnderExcercising: symptoms of a deeper problem? a problem which requires a spiritual solution?

Quote  |  Reply

So - in general, I am often repelled rather than attracted by some of the postings on CC.  Since I began reading posts on this website about a year ago, I’ve noticed that oftentimes folks feel free to spew condemnation and “you must” and “you must not” language.  This causes me to read postings with care – if the conversation turns into snipes and keyboard banging, it’s a downer for me and time to turn my computer off.  So this is leading into my question – are you aware of a spiritual/emotional forum on CC that is open and welcoming of all and speaks in soft/gentle tones with tinges of humor and occasional joy?

Please - don't reply only to slam the topic.  Thank you.

This question is spurred on by the posting below from “Mary_RD” in yesterday’s article about the new book:  A COURSE IN WEIGHT LOSS: 21 Spiritual Lessons For Surrendering Your Weight Forever

(never read the book, don’t know if it’s a good/bad book, just hungry for more of same conversation without the snipes and keyboard banging.)

Posting:  Mary_RD - Dec 02, 2010 05:31 PM   Regarding this book, I don't think many people have read it yet because it just came out - but it is Number 4 on The New York Times Hardcover Advice & Miscellaneous Best Seller List this week.  I see it as in the same vein as other spiritually-based programs, like the Jesus-based programs, Overeaters Anonymous, Geneen Roth's books,  etc.  I see these holy ideas as spanning most belief systems and nicely augmenting what Calorie Count offers.  You know, we have so many dimensions: physical, spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and occupational that we have to mind to reach self-actualization. I’ll always remember a question asked by one of my patients, a female minister, who said, “Why is this weight loss’s dirty secret?” (meaning the spiritual and emotional aspects.)

Does CC have a place where people routinely talk about this:  “Why is this weight loss’s dirty secret?

Again - before you hit the REPLY key - slamming comments need not be posted.  Thanks.

I thought Molly's response the first time you posted this pretty much summed it up.

time to turn my computer off.

I'm not quite sure what this is about...

I think it's about..(not sure how to shorten her username. Goons is tempting but might not go down well)... MBG looking for people who also like the spiritual approach of yet another bestselling dietbook.

MGB, in my mothertongue overeating is called 'Freßsucht'. Sucht standing for addiction. From my brief glance at the description the concept seems to have a similar base (handing over to something bigger outside ourselves) like the 12 steps program. So, if you like the concept there is no reason why it shouldn't work for you. The main tool (less calories in than calories used) will still be the same, though.

However, most people in the Lounge - me included - do not react well to being told what to post. The threat that you'll turn your computer off is a bit...hm... can't decide between childish and silly. Preposterous would also be a good word. Haven't used that one in ages either

Ooopidaisy! I think she turned her computer off...

Personally I love being told that I shouldn't post.

I also like OPs that are half quote, the other half saying how awful people are and that if you can't respond positively, you shouldn't say anything.

i guess it depends on how you define spirituality. i don't think there's any lack of it here, and i certainly don't think it's a secret.

If spirituality works for ya as a method for getting healthy, then by all means...

I'm still confused though. Is she wanting us to use the book mentioned or?

*mind is boggled*

Let the spirits rise
From the ashes of thunder thighs.
How fast you turn the thighs to a crisp
Depends on your burning spirit.

Posting the same thread in two locations is considered spamming. Please go back to the other thread, as this one is locked.
