Pear-shaped women: what brand of underwear works best for you?

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, I have this problem: I don't like thong underwear, but I hate having the continual wedgie issue with more regular styles. Sorry if that's TMI.

So...I'm not sure if apple-shaped or hourglass women have the same issues or not, but we pears have large bottoms usually and they need undies that won't ride up.

And I hope I don't get hated on by the apples who have been writing in spiro's very interesting apple-shape thread lately...sorry, I didn't choose to be a pear, and I do frequently wish that I didn't wear a size small top and size medium bottoms, or that all my dresses gap in the back (and sometimes I have them tailored to make that annoying gap disappear) because of the waist-hip difference. But...I won't complain, because as spiro says, it just means I'm shaped like a woman.

But my main frustration is having a visible panty line all around my big booty when I wear dress pants and even some skirts. Short of a thong or going commando, where do you buy your good undies, ladies?

I'm a slight pear shape. My go-to brand of underwear are GAP Body, either Hipster or Bikini style. They don't ride up. I should mention that I don't care if anyone can see a panty line. There's no way I'm wearing a thong.

Layer a bit of Spanx over it? I had to learn to love thongs.

I'm definitely a pear shape, and the best undies I've found for not riding up and not leaving a panty line are the "vanishing edge" line at Soma.  There are several different cuts depending on your preference, and they recently came out with new pretty stuff w/ lace.

I always buy hipster style undies. I generally don't have a problem with VPL (visible panty line!) unless my pants are WAY too tight.

Well, I don't have a problem with jeans, of course, but with some dress pants although they are not tight, the material lends itself to allowing you to see the pantyline. I never cared before, but I think it looks funny when I walk, like I have two bottoms or something. Tongue out

Thanks for the suggestions...I'll have to try the Gap, there's one in the city where I work at the local mall. Or maybe order them online? Not sure which would be cheaper.

Heh I am  not on the lookout to attack every pear I see

It's cuz I was tempted to reply in the apple thread until I saw "you skinny pears better not even put a toe in here" or something like that...LOL It was kind of like *gee, sorry, I didn't mean to be an evil pear!*

I admit I was ROTFL reading that thread, but I didn't contribute since I couldn't relate!

So I made my own thread...Wink

Seriously, I'm wondering if the real issue here is that I need to buy pants that are better made...maybe the problem is the pants and not the underwear? I can think of at least two pairs of my dress pants that I think are a good fit, but from behind I seriously look messed up IMO because of the line of demarcation between where the underwear clearly stop but the booty continues...Embarassed

If you're not picky about colour or print, I always find their underwear on sale in store. I usually pick them up when they're $2.99 or $5.99 each. I live in Canada though so maybe their online clearance bin + shipping is cheaper.

Hilarious! Underwear sucks for a pear, doesn't it?  I can't wear those cute little boy shorts/hipsters...everything bubbles and just looks awful.

A "bikini" style/high thigh works, but thongs are the most comfortable.

Well I am an hourglass but I am a BIG hourglass. So I know the woes or whoas lol of having a big behind.

That being said, as far as undies are concerned for avoiding the panty line issue I tend to use thongs, if they fit right then they don't hurt or are uncomfortable. Same as with bras. It shouldn't hurt, or be uncomfortable, if it is then it is usually the wrong size.

Anywhoo, I will try to find the hourglass thread, maybe someone can point me in the direction of more good panty ideas as well as talk about bra and how evil they are.

That's ok Spiro I got a huge kick out of it. I don't often poke my nose in the lounge but I enjoy lurking there. The clown boobs thread made me laugh a lot, too!

I went from.... "I spent the last 20 years pickin the underwear wedgie out of my butt, I am not going to purposely put it back by wearing a thong"....to.... "I don't want panty lines when I wear my nice slacks to work, but thongs still are uncomfortable, too much fabric to wedge up there"...to... "OMGosh, I discovered G- strings, they are awesome, don't even feel it up there.  Hey, alright!

You know, I've found that any cut of underwear works for me if I get the size right.  I may have four different styles of underwear in three different sizes, but hell, it works.

One of the best known Russian salads is "stolichniy salat," more commonly known as "olivie." While the traditional recipe is heavier on potatoes and mayonnaise, this version is lighter. It still offers the same variety of ingredients and taste of the original though, and pairs perfectly with meat, chicken, and fish (or by itself!).
