When do people stop having sex?

Quote  |  Reply

I know the answer is different for everyone. And I know it is more a question of, when do people stop wanting to have sex?

Do men usually stop wanting sex before women? Or do women stop wanting it before men? If you marry a man who is 10+ years older than you, are you doomed to be starved of sex starting in your late thirties?

Do you need "instant-stiffy" meds for the dude and "wanty-sex" meds for the woman every time they want to go at it?

As much as the thought of old people doing the deed scares me, the thought of "just not caring or wanting it anymore" scares me a lot too.

Totally serious by the way. :)

I hope I never do.

So are you saying somebody in their forties is too old for sex?  Are you saying someone in their forties is old?  Yeesh.  You kids make me crazy!

Not at all, rosie.

I was saying that I have heard that some people in their forties ran out of steam and stopped wanting sex. I thought that was way too young to stop having sex. Hell, some couples still have babies in their forties!

I stopped having sex the twelve hours before I had a baby.  Only lasted two weeks.

I plan on having sex when I am 80. With the lights off of course.

I plan on having sex on my death bed.

I am the stereotype, cliched female. As soon as my relationship went into 'long-term' territory, I no longer wanted sex. I still have it for his sake, but I could do without it 100%.

Barring medical conditions that may make it painful, impossible, or unsafe to engage in sex, people can bang away happily until they're 100 and beyond.

Like George Burns said: Sex can be fun after eighty, after ninety, and after lunch!

As for late 30s, well... I'm in my late 30s, and the only stiffy/wanty meds I need is my lover's touch. If in a couple decades I find that I need viagra then so be it... even if my sex drive may wane, it's unlikely it'll ever go away.

Not to single you out Terricontrary, but I feel sorry for your husband if the best he can hope for in his marriage is periodic "obligation sex". Have you at least discussed the situation and considered alternatives?

When they are dead.  I can't imagine not having sex...and I'm an old broad!  Hubby and I are very active..Wink   I agree with George Burns!

Yup and I still am. It's really all in my head.

I think its more common than the majority of replies here indicate for people to become disinterested in sex at younger ages (as opposed to when physical/medical issues come into play).  Not very many people will admit it.

Stress can be a killer and many treatments/medications for depression supress sex drive for males and females.  As for the older guys, it seems pretty clear there is a big market for helper meds - usually targeting late 40's and older - I think most docs would tell you its a dysfunction related to normal aging changes and related ailments and their medications - like high blood pressure -and not lack of desire.

stop? wtf?

agree watergirl "stop?" In 50's no sign yet of no interest.

People stop when they discover that they are infested with cooties.

ok...my instant thought was after we both c**  :P

I was the OTHER steryotypical woman...I hit my mid 30's and BINGO...my drive went into high gear...to the point where he couldn't keep up for a while...

I can't imagine either of our drives totally stopping...there may come a time where once or twice a week is ok, but I hope never less then that!

Oh lordy I hope the need/desire/lust for it never goes away for me personally.  Never has waned but with other women I know, they have no interest (what a pity).

Working in the senior industry, I can tell you that there are plenty of ladies and gents in their 80's and up that still participate in the activity.  In fact at one facility there is a hottie in her late 80's who has a hubby AND a boyfriend.

I plan on not stopping until my last breath.

If everyone's in good health and finds each other attractive there's no time-stamp on enjoying sex!!!  What a thought.  Sex is definitely one of those things where 'practice makes perfect'... I am so much better at it as a forty-something than I was as a twenty-something and long may that trend continue.

I mentioned 'good health' and you can find people get problems as they age.  It's not so much erectile dysfunction or vaginal dryness that we have a problem with as someone gets invalided out by a dodgy knee or hit by a spasm of cramp!  And then you just have to get creative ....  wink, wink.

Old people doing the deed are VERY scary.  And the best part is... we don't care!!!!
