When do people stop having sex?

Quote  |  Reply

I know the answer is different for everyone. And I know it is more a question of, when do people stop wanting to have sex?

Do men usually stop wanting sex before women? Or do women stop wanting it before men? If you marry a man who is 10+ years older than you, are you doomed to be starved of sex starting in your late thirties?

Do you need "instant-stiffy" meds for the dude and "wanty-sex" meds for the woman every time they want to go at it?

As much as the thought of old people doing the deed scares me, the thought of "just not caring or wanting it anymore" scares me a lot too.

Totally serious by the way. :)

You may be mistaking the lulls that all couples go through for disinterest. The sex life of a longterm couple is fluid, with ups and downs.

If you want to be assured of never losing the desire for sex, never stop having it, and more importantly never stop communicating about it.

You mean some people stop?

Heh, Kae, my first thought was like yours - "after we both climax... does Muttlover mean some people keep going after that?"  hee hee.

I am the stereotype, cliched female. As soon as my relationship went into 'long-term' territory, I no longer wanted sex. I still have it for his sake, but I could do without it 100%.

I'm sorry to say - I'm in the same boat as you.  I have no idea why, but once I got married the desire went right out the window.

I'm on a couple of different medications that are said to directly influence sex drive, so I'm not sure how much is related to that.  I know at least part of it is in my head, and luckily my husband is very loving, understanding and patient. But this issue is something I'm continually working on and trying to figure out - because I know it's not okay!

I plan on having sex when I am 80. With the lights off of course.

LOL.  Leave 'um on, honey - he won't be able to see ya that well anyway.Wink

What if she doesn't want to see things very clearly?

I  have a very high sex drive, higher than many males. It's always been a challenge for me to find a man whose drive and engergy can keep up with mine.

I love Mr. Everyready!

My partner is 20 years older than me we have been together for 8 years, it just gets better every year for us. and I think humans get sexier as they age, woman better than men. I think as you get older you except and learn to love every stretch mark cellulite and embrace wrinkles with great passion. Mick has a higher sex drive than me, in summertime he can be like a duracell bunny lol. I love our sex life but I reckon men think about it and want it more often, thats what Ive found in relationships.

But could that just be me I have always been attracted to older men and woman and love nothing more to see natural bodies in all there glory of different shapes and oddities. I find that a turn on as wrinkles and lines to me shows character and you can really tell if someone smiles alot or thinks alot to how many lines they have on their faces same as bodies its what makes you unique.

I reckon you never get too old but you can get too frail or ill in later life.

and if you end up with dementia who nows what will happen lol

When the other person says no (or starts snoring which ever comes first) Wink

I believe most of you have misunderstood the question. Muttlover meant "when to stop" like in midnight or 2 AM.

Agree!  I was married to a man 20 years older than me and sex was great.  We ended up divorced but it had nothing to do with sex.  Now my Hubby is 9 yrs older and he's........wow...and our sex life is the best I've ever had!  I feel bad for people younger that aren't fulfilled.

I hope never :)

I just went off birth control for the first time since I was 18, and my sex drive is AMAZING!  it was fairly normal before, and now it is a bit in overdrive.  I am loving it, as is hubby!

When they're old enough to be grandparents. Laughing

Everyone has a different set of circumstances regarding their health, life, and sex drive. I don't think there is an age that people stop having sex though. I'd be more inclined to ask: " At what age does sex stop getting better?! " Lol

There are simply circumstances between couples that dictate the course of their sex life, imho. The lack sex and/or interest in sex can be a result of flawed relationship and/or life style choice. A lot of people have health issues they aren't aware of that contribute. Plus: People take more meds as they age so the lack of sex/desire is sometimes a result of medications. On a side note: Some people's sex lives are dictated by preconceived notions of the way it ' should  be ' or ' is for other people ' in my view. Some people actually believe/claim that a couple stops having sex once married/or upon entering a long-term relationship. And/or after having babies. Or: During or after menopause. Etc etc.

It's possible that people convince themselves that they should naturally be experiencing a lull and create one subconsciously for that reason. I intend to continue to have good/active sex for the rest of my life. - crosses fingers- I wouldn't say that is the most important thing in life, but its a big + for me.

My performance level may naturally drop a bit with old age. However: So long as I have a pulse I'm going to get my fair share of sexual healing.

Interesting post me and my wife might be in that situation at first I thought it was due to stress buying a home changing careers. Which will affect sex drive greatly however now that has past and we can't get it going again. We are still totally in love and have a good live however I am afraid my wife has lost totally interest and I certainly don't want to have her do something if she is not in the mood.

sad
