Jealous. I feel increasingly lame for not growing a garden. It seems such a waste of land and direct sunlight.

I'm still waging a battle against aphids.  It's constant war out there KG... sometimes I wonder if it's worth it.

Maybe get some ladybugs?  :)

After my interview I found one on my door.  I thought it was good luck.  Too bad he was just hunting aphids. Ha!  And too bad there was only one.  I bought pesticide dust.. but I'm hesitant to use it. :(

Dishwashing liquid in water is a better option than pesticide dust

ETA: you can mix it in a spray bottle and spray it over, or just take your washing up bowl out and throw it over the plants. Recycling in action :)

even for aphids?! :(  stupid aphids.

I saw tapioca starch at the natural foods store, last time I was there.  I wonder if that, made into a paste, would work as a non-dairy thickener.

I hope they're just slow, Bex.  If they were still conducting interviews through Friday, it's totally feasible that they'll call today.

or even tomorrow.

Bex, if you haven't heard today, I think calling them tomorrow to nicely follow up would be totally fine. TB is right, though. They may still be finishing things up or maybe even getting an offer ready for you which can take time since they usually require lots of approvals.

Yeah I figured I'd call tomorrow.  Looking back, they had asked to interview me Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.  So  they may have had interviews Thursday.  They also are super busy (the reason they're hiring).  Honestly.. I just want to know one way or another so the anxiety'll stop. good or bad, I hardly care at this point.  :(

When I interviewed for the job I have now. I had to wait 3 weeks to interview because of vacations already booked, and then I was put off twice while they interviewed other candidates over 2 weeks. They offered me the job after I wrote an email to the manager explaining that I was really interested and was prepared to wait if they needed me to.

So don't despair there's still hope :)

As a thickener, probably, but I'd imagine that it works the same way flour or corn starch would, rather than cream.  If that makes sense.

Yep, that does.  I don't think anything really subs properly for dairy, actually... but thinned tofu does have possibilities.

I don't think cream is in the classic recipe for etouffee, is it? Nick tolerates butter ok, doesn't he?

The silken tofu worked amazing as mousse.....thinning it and running it through a food processor, I could see it working like the cream.

The John Astin thread has me wanting to go home and find all of my old favorite TV shows.  I loved Brisco County, Jr.!

Yep, KG, he can do butter.

It isn't in my mom's recipe, but I don't know that her's is exactly a "classic" recipe for it either...

My roses have been aphid-free ever since I started planting garlic in the pot with them ;)

:) thanks for all the positivity everyone.  I'm being a downer today.  Also I think all the sun yesterday made me a sleepy face.

don't they realize how delicious garlic is? they really are just the worst, those aphids! ;)

Ever since I got the Brennan's cookbook, I rely on their recipes for Cajun/Creole cuisine.

On the aphid and dish soap topic: In the UK we have a brand of washing up liquid called fairy, so you can spray your plants with fairy water :)

I'm raising aphids. I feed them on my Roses.

That's cute, Deb.

Maybe Dawn would be the way to go, here in the U.S.  "Dawn water" sounds nice.

...eta... or like a euphemism for a morning pee...
