Remedies for a Stomach Ache

Quote  |  Reply

Since I'm a huge baby, I really cannot handle stomach aches whatsoever. I want to curl into the fetal position and lay there to die. My tummy has been hurting since yesterday before I left work. I think I made a mistake by working out, trying to just push through it.

After working out, I came home and cooked dinner - tilapia and broccoli --- nearly hurled up the fish - ick. ick. ick. It was hurting all last night, waking me up, etc. I drank sprite, that didn't help worth a isht. Took tums, nothing.

This AM, I took pepto bismol, and have been sipping sprite. nothing. still hurts. I'm afraid to eat because I feel so nauseous.

I need your "secret" remedies. help!

Lemon ginger tea with honey or peppermint tea usually help me a bit.

I have good luck with simple carbs...  like plain old white pasta or white bread.

Also-  Ginger Ale instead of the sprite.

For nausea, try eating some crystallized ginger or eating some real black licorice (none of that Twizzlers crap).

Personally, mild carby food is what I turn to when I'm nauseous.  Bread, bananas, crackers, etc.

I need some ginger. I just feel so hurty in my tummy to walk over to walgreens. :( wahhhhh

when i muster up the energy to walk over to WG's, I will definitely see if they have any of those types of teas. thanks :)

I think you should call your doc, Rox. A stomach ache that you can't attribute to your cycle, might be something that needs checking.

Edit: What kind of pain is it? Stabbing, achey, dull, sharp? Have you taken ibuprofen or acetaminophen?

Emetrol for the nausea. It works wonders when my kids have the up-chucks and Wal-greens has a generic version that's less expensive.

I also agree with the ginger (ale, lozenges, crystallized) and BRATY/CRAMY diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, yogurt, cereal, milk).

husband said this too.... i would just hate to run to the doctor if it's something stupid... it *might* be because of my cycle? i'm due for my period in about a week and a half. my lower back and certain joints are also aching like a mother effer. related??? no idea.

Have not taken ibuprofen or acetaminophen - just took the pepto, but I don't think that stuff is in it. my stomach is really distended and is achey. Sometimes the pain is sharp, then it goes away.

I vote for giving the doctor a call - you seem way too uncomfortable to just wait and see.

I probably wouldn't bother going to the doc unless it stays bad for another day or two...  could just be a bug since there are a few going around (here anyway), or it could be food poisoning or something relating to your cycle...  Chances are it'll clear up by itself pretty quick.

I kinda hate going to the doc, though, so I usually avoid it unless I'm pretty sure I'm dying.

welll... the back pain says period to me.   I would try the ibuprofen first, and if that doesn't give you some relief, call the doc.  You might just be gassy.

If you're noticing symptoms you don't usually experience with your period, I'd say a quick call (depending on what your doc's office is like) might at the least set you on the right track.

I will get lower back pain and joint pain with my cycle but only right before...like a day or few hours before.

As for a tummy ache I eat bread (usually toasted) or pasta and stick with water. I've always had a weak stomach so I've learned to deal with tummy aches. Doctors haven't been able to figure out why. Their best guess is stress. Any stress or guilt?

No baby in there?

Also second the carbs and ginger ale.

Also, if it is gas, lay down on the floor and make yourself fluff.  Even if you are at work.  It works.

Was that a nice way of saying fart?

I've heard that downward facing dog is good for this.

You're not going to like this, because it's gross...  but it works.  Bakind soda and chamomile tea.

To make and use this mixture, brew one tea bag of chamomile tea in 6 oz. of hot water for 4 to 5 minutes before discarding the tea bag. Add ½ tbsp. baking soda to the hot tea and stir to dissolve. Let the tea cool to a drinkable temperature and drink twice per day, in the morning and before bed. This treatment can be used twice daily

ok, so i went to walgreens, and of course they had nothing with ginger in it except for ginger ale - which I paid $2.19 for a 2-liter which made me want to punch something, lol - so I ended up with the ale. I checked out their tea and they only had chamomile and green tea - no ginger or lemon or anything.

So, I'm sipping the ginger ale hoping this helps.

I did doodle before I left, and was jumping for joy thinking this would help... but it didn't.

and there better be no baby in there.
