Ren Faire junkies unite! :D
I was chatting with some friends in here and found out that there are quite a few faire junkies amongst my CC buddies so I thought we needed our own room lol. so share your faire and feel free tell about what you like most. I frequent the Texas renaissance faire religiously every year, its mandatory amongst everyone in my family to the point that i need a small bus to hold everyone lol (but thats in the works for the future, I even told my boss that if he won't let me off those days that he can kiss my butt lol. we go the whole weekend and camp on the grounds and just have an amazing time! (plus i met my now BF there so theres even more sentimental reasons to go.)
I absolutely love the RenFaire. My DH and I volunteer to work it at least once each year. We volunteer through AYSO soccer organization and staff a beer booth or tent each year. This year was the first year we went in our own costumes. See my gallery, I have posted 2 photos of us in costume along with adding my individual photo as my profile photo.
I can't wait until next year's Faire!
I LOVE your dogs, too!
Can't wait for the jousting and Fight Club! And the mead. And the pickle on a stick. And the fresh honey.
Hmmm....this might not be good for ye old diet! But I'll also walk for hours so.....I think I'll be ok.
seems its been a while since we've used this thread, but the fall festivals are over and I'd love to see how everyone enjoyed their faires. ours went very well when we went in halloween but thanksgiving weekend was sooooo sloshy and icky we had 6 ppl in one tent cause the others sprouted leaks lol.
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE RenFaire!!!
I started going, and got my first bodice at the Tampa Bay Area RenFaire @ MOSI {it used to be in Largo, FL} but now I call the Sterling Renaissance Festival in Sterling, NY my home Faire :)
I am getting married at Sterling this summer and am already working on the gown, well, I'm helping the woman who will be making it for me by looing for fabric, but I've got it picked out....July and August can't get here soon enough - I am SOOOOOO excited!!!
I am interested in learning to make my own garb { I have a sewing machine but it's been about 15 years since I've used one } - what I have now is more "costumey" than I would like, and My Fiance and I are going to work on developing characters - I am squirrliling away every extra penny and dreaming of season passes :)
congratz hon. good to hear you're so happy. I make my own costumes. and generally everyone elses that goes with us lol so my septembers are always booked up with my sewing machine. i started sewing after not really having more than home ec in high school and didn't really know what i was doing. i started practicing by hitting the clearance cloth table and seeing what i could get cheap so that if i made a mistake it wouldn't kill my pocketbook :D but now my confidence is getting really good and i've even made a few costumes without benefeit of a pattern.
just find you a good simple pattern and give it a go and see what happens. start with regular tops, and skirts and see what all you can make. stuffed animal pillows are fun too just follow the instructions on the pattern, i know its sometimes greek. but you can work it out :D
I am pretty comfortable with hand-stitching, and I love embroidery - often times it's just a matter of getting myself to hold still long enough to complete a project {my Fiance has some pants he's been waiting a good month for me to mend}!
I think I would like to start with a simple skirt and then a chemise pattern ~ I have a couple of nice bodices, and I'd like to make myself something a bit more authentic to go with them ~ would you suggest looing at someplace like JoAnn's for patterns, or will I be better off looking on some of the Ren Sites?
Thanks for your advice and encouragement, btw :)
Lollipopfairy, ...*sigh*... would that I had gone to the Washington Faire while I was on the west coast - the woods there are lovely, I can only imagine how enchanting the festival grounds must be!
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
