Now the sweet bells of mercy
Drift through the evening trees
Young men on the corner
Like scattered leaves,
The boarded up windows,
The empty streets
While my brother's down on his knees
My city of ruins
My city of ruins
Come on, rise up! Come on, rise up!
Come on, rise up! Come on, rise up!
*Brings piping hot biscuits and gravy, sizzling sausages, and strong black coffee.
Good morning KG.
buenos dias Chat!!!!!
now i want biscuits and gravy.
*pouts*
Like my biscuits and gravy?? ![]()
Great. Seems since I upgraded my snow leopard on my mac I now can no longer syns my iCal with my googlecalendar.
Ot myaybe it's the calendars fault becuase I also have problmes syncing it with my phone.
Ah, bah, whatever. I'm sick of this syncing business. I'll be using the calendar on my phone henceforth and screw any syncing ****. I'll transfer the important stuff in by hand and try not to be too envious of iPhone users once ICloud starts to work.
I'll just look at my prettier lighter phone that is much cheaper and has more apps for free!
do you really have biscuits and gravy??? or just in chat???
if IRL .... *i iz jealous*

I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee.
The sun will rise, the youths will learn they need one another. The society will know that as long as the sun showers the earth energy that are hundreds folds of our need, we'll be fine. People will learn that as long as our knowledge advances fast enough to keep up with the population rise, we'll be fine.
I'm convinced we actually need come level of economic collapse. Technology and modern society has damaged us and I think that we won't be healed until we are forced to rely on ourselves and our communities for survival. We are too spoiled, too disconnected, too impatient. Time for a shake up.
That was a cheerful first post of the morning.
Kari - I'm interested to not what you do? All that talk of baking yesterday and now chocolate for "the shop." I'll be insanely jealous if you own a bakery. :)

After the first collapse a few years ago, we learned nothing. People still spent above their means, and that's because it's in the DNA of most people. Everyone has to one-up their neighbor, their co-worker, their relative.

That wasn't a collapse; just a very large bump in the road. And it looks like we're in for another one. I agree we didn't learn crap from it though.

Technologies of the last century won't be able to feed the amount of people we have this century. We just need to balance things. You can't force people to rely on themselves for survival. The communists tried that and many millions died. Agricultural science advances allow us to feed the mass with the work of a few. Now we need to put the mass to work on other things to support a modern society.
Good morning, all!
now, is there cream for the coffee?
Yes.
For you, peanut! Long time no see.

I don't mean on a long term basis. I mean we need to have the rug fully pulled out from underneath us for a couple years and learn what's really important in this life: food, shelter, safety, loved ones. Not entertainment, convenience, material possessions. Like the Great Depression taught one generation and the rationing and loss of life in World War II taught another generation. We may know those things on an intellectual level, but we don't put that knowledge into practice. Unfortunately Western Society doesn't seem very good at finding balance until they've spent time on both ends of the teeter totter.
I know it's not that simple. It just seems like a good start.

Yesterday's gumbo in my pic was real and I cooked it the day before. Today biscuits and gravy are in the lunch room, also real but they come from a local caterer, courtesy of an equipment vendor.
Hey pb! Where ya been?

This is why dropping out of society seems like a valid idea to me. I don't want to have to participate in a collapse because of the idiocy of those around me. But those idiots around me are forcing me to participate because of their choices. I don't like that. /rant

How much more rug do you wanna pull? I lost 10 yrs of saving in the past few years. Little of the loss was from not knowing, most of it was from my decision to stay in and keep the economy going. Call that stupid if you may but I knew it was coming and you don't have to tell an Asian man how to seek haven in gold. I thought what the hey, I like to work any way, retiring early doesn't mean much to me. Now I'd like to see our society as a whole to rise, to be better, to take care of one another, to work hard and get better but have compassion and help those who struggle. So let's rise.

Pavvy - What you are talking about is another Great Depression. My parents both lived through that experience and though it did make them great at resource distribution it also filled them (and that entire generation) with fear - fear of not having, fear of starvation, fear of not being able to educate their children, fear of letting go of old ways and a thousand other fears.
My parents also alwasy said tht they wanted the world to be a better place so that future generations would not have to live through such hard times.
I agree that we all need a little shaking up - but not as intense as what you seem to be advocating.
