Being rude on forums

Quote  |  Reply

I'm just going to throw this out there.  It is rude to call other people rude.  I say this because people have a habit of accusing other people of being rude on forums or chastising them for not being more polite.  Not only is that rude, but it is a passive agressive way of doing the same thing to others that you accuse them of doing.

Calling out someone and declaring them rude is not only rude, but it is also hypocritical. So for all you hypocrites out there who feel the need to correct other people's manners, shut up. No one asked you anything.  You are not their mother and have no business correcting their manners.  If you think they said something abusive, report the comment.  Why confront them?  Do you think that will inspire them to change?

I don't think that this is rude to say because I am not calling out anyone specifically. I am just stating what I find to be rude behavior.  I also think that cutting lines, talking over other people and stealing food from shared fridges is rude behavior.

Smashley - I'm not familiar with your posts so I will address the generality of your statement:  If you don't like being called rude I suggest you change the tone of your posting.

There are many intelligent, articulate, pleasant, caring people on this site and in these forums who could be your friends BUT they are not going to tolerate rudeness, ugliness or any other juvenile behaviors.

Consider the calling out that you receive a lesson in manners, chalk it up to experience, gain some humilty, apologize for being crass, and learn how to have open, honest, conversation.   You will then have the opportunity to gain some true online friends.

The word rude has like, totally lost all meaning for me.

Although I kind of agree with Smashley, in a way.  I just think people take this forum/the internet way too seriously.  I don't think people need to get upset, it's just pixels people.

I just wanted to say that I totally love this topic.

*please continue*

I'm with you smash, most of the people calling you rude are elitist presumptuous arses.

Smashley is rude, too.

hypocrite ;)

How rude.  I never said that I wasn't rude.

I get called out for being mean, rude, inconsiderate, etc. as much as you do, but I have to completely disagree that calling someone out is rude. It's their right to call you out if they feel like it. Nothing wrong with it.

Smashley-

Like I said before.  I think you're funny, but I have that type of humor.

My suggestion... stay out of the WL forum.  People tend to get their feelings hurt over there.

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRude.

Nevermind me. I'm just practicing the tongue rolling R.

Ravishing Rick Rude, yeah I remember that guy, quite the mustache on him......wait....what are we talking about again?

Pot, meet kettle.

So, what's the alternative to calling someone out on their bs? I mean, I don't generally get upset by internet posts and try not to engage in arguments, but that doesn't work for everyone.

p.s. the responses in this thread made me chuckle a little at my desk and made my morning a little brighter so thanks for that :)

Pixels you created to express a thought to living, breathing person, with feelings.

That fact that you try to separate internet communication from in person communication as being less says a lot about you.

Eh, I think if someone is being rude, they should be called out on it. However, no one should really care what is written on the internet 'cause it's never serious and they daren't say it to your face in person. I think it's funny.

This looks oddly familiar. I think I saw a similar the same post, verbatim last week.

Yeah, I'm not a real big fan of other people telling me how I'm supposed to feel.

Say what you gotta say, OP.  Just know, it's anyone else's right to tell you to go suck it if they don't like it.
