Going to Scotland for the Gathering in 2009?
Just wondering if anyone is going to Scotland next year for the Gathering. Or, if anyone lives in Scotland?

There's going to be a Clan Gathering in Edinburgh in July 2009... I learned of it a couple of weeks ago when I went to a local Games.
Any specific clan or just all?
I am planning on it. My dad is paying for my cousin, he and myself to go for two weeks in July....the 12th-25th or something like that. I have no idea if there was something going on that he was planning for but we are supposed to be going. I am looking forward to it.
No, all clans. It is basically a Games... It's supposed to be the biggest gathering in Scotland since 1822. I am planning to go, and I am soooooo excited!!!!
I have put in an email to my regional fella (don't remember his title) to see if our local clan has a group going... you know, for cutting costs. He hasn't gotten back to me yet, but he may not have that information....

Awe I'm with you now, you had me quite confused for a moment trying to think what it could be. The Edinburgh Military Tattoo, you will have the time of your life and won't regret a single penny of it....trust me, I've been quite a few times never get fed-up with it ever.
Why is it called the Military Tattoo? Is it because of the Pipes and Drums? I know that I thoroughly enjoyed the festivities here in SC.... I heard several Games veterans say that these (in Greenville, SC) were the best in the region. I have joined my clan group and plan on volunteering at some of the events in the region over the next year.

It's called that because it's the military who originally started it and are the main bands also it's in edinburgh castle which is where military stay here is their official web-site you can see video clips and gives you loads of information.

Yes, vicereine, clan. Mind you, it's not Klan, as in KKK, but clan as in family or group. I am in clan Donald (we're MacDonald's to be precise). A long time ago, people didn't marry outsider his/her clan very often. And some clans, you just didn't marry into at all... you know feuds and stuff...
Set me straight, anndjoe, if I am saying anything wrong....
Anyway, any info anyone has about history, or questions or whatever! I am very interested in talking to people about the country and its culture! (I am very nearly obsessed.... much to the amusement of my coworkers...)
Ann, I looked at the site you gave, and it's not the same thing that is going on next year.... the Gathering is in July... the Tattoo is in August. Geez, I wish I could go to both of them! So you have been to the Tattoo? and it's grand? It looks like fun!
Oh well I have never heard of this Clan thing I'll need to look into it.
