something you wanted when you were a kid

Quote  |  Reply

I never knew about Edmond Scientifics and all their toys!

When I was little, I remember seeing one of these things (only it had a tuft of feathers on its head) when we were at a gift shop at the beach, and I wanted one so much!  I don't even know why, I just really really wanted to watch it move on its own - maybe I thought it was magic...

For all this time, I never knew what they were or what they did or why they exist, but I just wanted one.

And NOW I CAN GET ONE!

Laughing

Ever had anything like that - something trivial and silly that you've wanted since you were a kid and eventually you got it?

Anything like that you wanted but never got? (Do they still make them?)

I wanted trips to the Boston Science Museum...and I got them...and I still want them :)

And now I was some silly-putty

I always wanted a Playmobil SET. I had 3 little people with a few accessories when I was a kid, and those were some of my favorite toys. Never got one. Maybe when my son is older, I could justify the expense?? (I could play with it in secret once he goes to bed!)

Example: Playmobil Castle

Yeah. Still want one! Wink

Look at all the stuff that's been discontinued and is on sale!

You should get that catapult!  It'll go nicely with the castle when you get it.  Laughing

When I was little, I reallllllly wanted a sit-n-spin.  Never got it.  My kids got one, but they don't make them big enough for adults.  Frown

I really wanted several of those troll dolls. My mom thought they were ugly and wouldn't buy me one.

Are you sure?

I remember spinning on one when I was full grown at 17 (after my dad's girlfriend's daughter got one and she really wanted me to try it)

If you still have it, give it a whirl!

I remember asking Santa for Weebles ("Weebles wobble, but they don't fall down")  he even read my letter on tv (local show, that came on after school, during December, but he never did bring them.

I've seen them since, but they just aren't the same.

There was also the Commodore 64 (really dating myself now), but my parents are/were rather techophobic when it comes to computers and such, not sure why as the internet didn't even exist back then, I think they just thought it was a waste of money. I've since had much much better computers.

When I was little, I really really wanted an Easy Bake Oven. I see them in the stores and I still want one. As soon as one of my kids asks for one.....we're getting one!

I wanted a super spirograph set.

I bought one for Christmas 4 years ago, it cost me a pretty penny, but it was all in the original box with no missing pieces. I think I would have had more fun with it if I had gotten it as a child, but I have the prized item now.

I can not for the life of me interest my daughter in it. She just doesn't feel the magic.

I spent all my time as a kid crawling in the canopy of trees, wanted a good set of tree climbing spikes as far back as I can remember.

I bought my own at 15 when I went to work jacking trees.

I HAD ONE OF THESE! Now I can't have enough colored sharpies and doodle designs like its my job...I think there's a connection

The thing I always wanted but never got was a dog! I sure made up for it when I grew up though.

Yes - after my oldest offered to share when I told him about my childhood yearning for one (yes, a very sweet moment), I did try it, and didn't work out.  It can't be because I'm too heavy, so it must have been made differently from the one you tried....Innocent  (which wouldn't be surprising - I'm amazed by "classic" toys I buy now, that aren't nearly the same quality I recall from the 70's)

1. Santa gets a spanking for that, I do believe.

2. I know what you mean about how the new ones are different.  I was really into the Fisher Price Little People (a cousin of Weeble Wobbles - only they had things like houseboats and castles that had little round indentations where the little people were supposed to sit).  The little people they make now are so much bigger than the little people from the 70s.  All because parents are either too inattentive or too dumb to make sure their children are not eating their toys and choking.

Undecided

I don't know how polly pocket gets away with being so tiny.  Maybe they're tiny enough to be swallowed without posing a choking hazard.

I always wanted a cat and now I have two, so I guess my story's similar. I was pretty spoiled as a child and usually got what I wanted. I was pretty reasonable with my wishes, I think (that and my mom goes nutso crazy Christmas shopping). We always had good presents :)

Although, my mom gave away all my lego as soon as she determined we were too old for them. If I still had them I'd play with them to this day.

bop it!

You are officially the coolest chick human I know.

I wanted a gray Arabian mare that I was going to name Smoke.  Or a racehorse.

Didn't get either for some strange reason.

No, I was just fascinated with them. I agreed they were ugly as well.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
