Turning 40
Anyone else out here turning 40 this year like me? I enjoyed my 30's so much and was proud that I was aging with such good grace and good humor but...now that it is closing in...I am not so sure. I notice in the mirror those lines on my face and the greys in my hair and I just want to be a young woman and stop the process! Did anyone else have issues around this time. I think that is why I am trying to get in shape and be the healthiest I can be - what else can you do?
<< waving hand in air - me me I am! I'll be 40 in June - at first I was a little hung up on it - but I'm fine with it now. My hair actually started turing grey in my late 20's - so, no suprises there... nothing a little hair color can't restore:) The only thing that I have noticed is that has gotten more difficult - is to shed weight - I actually have to work at it - alot:)
I'm treating myself to Elton John tickets at Ceasars Palace - the good seats. And since I plan on being at my goal weight of 130 by my birthday - I'm also treating myself to a new fun outfit to wear to that concert:)

Good for you for the attitude. I am working on mine :) It just took me by surprise is all I was expecting to have no issues with my age. I do color my hair too - the greys are pretty stubborn though and come out pretty darn quick. It is much harder to get into shape though, you are right there! Last time I lost weight it was on the "Divorce Diet"!! That was not good - too much too fast.
I love Elton John! Lucky you! My goal weight was 115 (I am 5'4") but I am thinking of readjusting that to 120 - I don't want to be high maintenance - I want to work out regularlily and eat healthy - I don't want a life long obsession with salad and rice cakes!!
Great to meet you!

not turning 40 but turning 30! elton john rocks! whatcha going to wear!
Hi girls! I had the big 4-0 last year and am coming up (in June) on my 41st. (The years sure go by faster now than ever!) It bothered me at first, I didn't even let anyone know it was my birthday, but I'm OK with being in my 40's now. I also notice that the pounds stick more now than they did, I miss being able to eat whatever, whenever when I was in my teens and 20's. But, roxanned, I am at the healthiest I ever have been and it feels great! I am lucky enough to only have to deal with a few grays (I just yank them out for now!), but I have noticed the difference in the skin around my eyes.
Nice to meet you both! Hang in there!

Congratulations to you for being in the shape of your life at 41! That is great thing to aspire to! That was my goal too when I turned 39, to be in the best shape by 40 - I will be about 6 months or so off of that but that is ok - as long as I get there right? Four years ago I quit smoking so the fact that I had 20 or less pounds to lose is minor compared to getting rid of the addiction beast!! Each goal I reach I feel stronger and more empowered to go on to the next goal. This year I am planning to go back to school - my reward to myself for being a stay at home Mom for 7 years and then working a dead end job for another 7 years. I have a new job this year, a new outlook and a new body on the way! :) Slappy you seem to be very athletic and you are very lucky that you started when you are still so young! Good luck to all of us!
thanks rox! Im trying to reach my best shape by 30. my mom is in her 50s and never took care of herself. Im not going to do that to my kids.
My big 40 is this fall. What I think? Too often our fashion sense stops evolving when we graduate high school. If you look in the mirror and your hair is feathered all the way back or you use a lot of mousse, maybe consider a new do? I'm not saying try and be 15. I'm just saying that there's nothing like bringing in a new decade with a change. I thought I'd try some hair extensions, lighten up on the eye makeup, and sit in the sun a bit for a change. By the way, I went platinum blonde and my grey all but disappeared - it looks like highlights now! No more color washing out! Plus, since I've always been a brunette, it's kind of fun and weird at the same time. Husband loves it too.
Yes Slappy it is such a responsibility, especially for our daughters, that we teach them healthy lifestyle vs. weight obsession! I try to keep this calorie counting thing to myself at home! My one daughter is 14 and the other is 16, my son is 13. That is an age where you have to be on the look out - I catch my girls trying to skip meals but then going for a slurpy??? Aghhhh!! When I got the new job, with a raise the first thing I did was get us all a membership to the YMCA!
awesome Rox. My daughter will be 5 this summer and my son will be 3 in 2 weeks :(
I let them know we are healthy, we eat healthy foods and exercise because its fun! They actually exercise with me and hubby. I want them to form these habits at an early age so its something that is just a part of life. we keep so much fruit on the table it overflows! They will chose it over candy which makes me so happy! We grow a garden in the summer and they love to pick it and eat the veggies. my kids actually have 1lb weights so they can be with us when we workout! mydaughter loves to do crunches with me too, you should see that little stomach. They will remind us if we didnt exercise. I dont want my kids to say mommy is losing weight or dieting. She says mommy is being healthy! I think it is our responsibility to let our kids know that exercise is fun not a chore. we dont get outside much in the winter so when spring comes we will be outside playing so I cant wait! Probably sounds like Im going overboard but I see too many kids their age that are overweight and it really upsets me. This is an issue I could go on and on about! sorry for rambling!

I actually keep forgetting how old I am. I keep thinking I'm a year older, wonder why that is?
Anyway - hit 35 last year and felt fat. I'm getting there - 10 pounds more to go (or so... can't figure that 10 is enough by looking at my belly....)

I agree with you Slappy - my kids do not have any weight issues - they HAVE to be involved in a sport - any sport they choose but they have to do one. Plus, I do NOT put pop and chips in the pantry - they have it on occasion - I buy milk and bottled water and 100% juice - they get mad at me because their friends can eat that other stuff whenever they want - I just tell them that each house the parent gets to set the rules and these are the rules in my house because those treats are empty - what I give them makes them grow and glow!! I still pack their lunches so I know they have good nutrition during the day! Sad huh? Their Dad's house... a different story but you can only control what you can.
I am laughing at you cheating girl because I went through a phase where I could never remember how old I was too! Even when I lose weight I still have this loose skin on my belly too - I was told I might not be able to do much about it other than surgery and I am so not doing surgery - I will just wear a one piece bathing suit for the rest of my life thank you very much!
I have to admit sometimes I think Im still like 23! I look at my daughter and cant believe she is going to be 5 soon! And my baby boy is almost 3! You can see their pic on my profile! Good job for taking control of what your kids eat. i think my daughter will want to take her lunch when she starts next year...
Hi
I am turning 40 this June as well. Its funny, I couldnt GAIN weight to save my soul until i was 30 . Even then it was only about 10bs over weight.
But geez , the times are a changin. I was, at 38, 193lbs!!! 43 lbs overweight. I cant wait to be in the best shape of my life either like the other fellah was saying.
Didnt someone say that life BEGINS at 40?

I had a hard enough time turning 34, I don't want to turn 40. I think I'm just going to start counting backwards until I'm 21 again. It's definately been harder to lose weight this time around so I'm not going to gain it back.
Hope your 40th is a wonderful day. Wishing you success with your weight loss goals. :)

Hi Everyone,
I'm also turning 40 on May 15th this year. In the last 5 years I have noticed how hard it is to keep my weight in line...now it feels like I'm on a quick spiral downward.
I was happy at a size 10 at 125-130...the weight piles on too fast and it's SUPER hard to take it off. I'm pushing 170 right now and I've decided it's time to do something about it.
I'm a single mom with a 6 yr old daughter. The most difficult time for me is the winter....Obviously in the summer I'm outside and running, but the winter excercise is next to nothing.
Will take any advice offered! Thanks!
Terry

Hmmm...how old am I now? I'll be 42 in less than one month. I thought I'd have issues turning 30, 35, or 40 but I just sailed right through those speed bumps. Turning 40, or any age for that matter, is completely and totally unavoidable! Don't worry about it - just suck it up buttercup, relax, enjoy your life like you usually do roxanned. Age is just a number - how do you feel inside? That's what counts!!! You don't need to work on your attitude - it's great as it is - you are inspirational. All we can do is make sure that we take care of ourselves by eating healthy and exercising (especially with friends) and do things that make us happy so that we take care of our souls as well.
Thank you very much rainbow - I am going to take your advice and the other's and make this a good time in my life - full of health, family moments and good friends! I have much to look forward to and will choose to dwell on that instead of wrinkles, belly bulge and grey hair! :) I took a dance class last night and we were strutting our stuff! That makes you feel young - when you still got it!! LOL Have a wonderful, healthy, and beautiful day everyone!
A dance class? Sounds like fun...next thing you know you'll be going to a stippercise class!
oops - that should have said strippercise!
