Just curious - either from your personal experience or experience of someone you know, etc... what, in your opinion, is too much to spend on a vacation? Is there even a "too much" when it comes to a vacation?

We're planning our 5-year (!!!!) anniversary trip for march. It's pricey to vacation at an all-inclusive, but IMO, oh-so-worth it :)

Too much is when you're jeopardizing your financial state/your life savings. AKA, if you can afford it, why not? If I were filthy rich I would travel nonstop.

If you're got (pressing) debts maybe tone it down.

Yeah we can afford it - as in, we won't be sacrificing paying bills to pay for the vacay, it's just such a large chunk all at once! :P

What's the point of living if you don't enjoy it, and just go automaton like from day to day?

Enjoy! :D

Cool

Honestly, I can't flipping wait.

There's only one snag with my husband's job... but hopefully there won't be any issues !

Too much is what I can't afford. When it comes to luxuries, traveling is my priority.

It always pays to have a personal concierge. I'll do it pro bono and even fly coach. That should help cut your expenses.

I think an all-inclusive is worth it. I have been wanting to go to an all-inclusive resort. Check livingsocial, they sometimes have pretty good deals on all-inclusives.

If it hinders paying bills or leaves me without groceries or lights, it's too much. If it's money that I've saved and put aside and choose to travel with, there's no such thing as too expensive or too much.

We'll be planning our 5-year next October, and I know it won't be a small sum. (Most likely the same all-inclusive we traveled to for our honeymoon)

It's not just the travel, but the experience. What's the point of working if I experience nothing outside that?

Hopefully this isn't irresponsible advice, but I always say...  you can't put a price tag on memories.

As long as it doesn't cause you extensive hardship...   go for it.  My husband and I went to an all inclusive in Riviera Maya last March and it was actually very reasonable.  I went to a travel agent and she got me a better deal than I could find online.

we did all inclusive to the mayan riveria this past winter, too.  totally worth it to pay for all inclusive...

that being said, we didn't stay at the absolute best of the best or anything (i think we stayed 4 stars?)...it was still really nice.  rox, i'd aim to find somewhere with lots of food/bar choices!

I'm with Meta. I'd much rather spend money on experiencing new things/places than 'things'.

I try to pay in pieces for large vacations. So, I'll book the airfare....then a couple weeks later, I book lodging, if needed....a few weeks later, I will start to book activities. If those activities don't take your money until the day of service, I will move whatever amount that activity costs into savings. I always also move in a few hundred dollars for food and tips and stuff like that.

We have only ever stayed at one all-inclusive...well, I guess we also did the dive boat where you're on the live-aboard for a week....that's all-inclusive I guess. It's just not our style since we are so rarely at our hotel/place of lodging when we travel. Do what you want to do and since you have the budget for it, don't worry about it!!!!

I won't put a dollar amount on what I've paid/think is reasonable/etc because it really is all about the memories. Have fun!!!

lmao! just concierge?! if i'm paying for your airfare, you're going to have to be the butler! js!

thanks guy for your advice. I love AI's because when we go somewhere, we stay at the resort and live. it. up. Drink and eat and play our faces off. LOL! I'm so excited now. I mean, I was before, but it's just been booked as of today, so it's "official" now!

And just putting this out there, but we are Sandals peeps. We love the sandals. I know some people aren't fans of them, but this will be our third trip to a sandals resort in 5 years. wooo!

Woo Rox. So exciting!! :)

so, where are you going?

Antigua!
