Who do you want to be in 10 years?

Quote  |  Reply

This question is one my husband posed to himself earlier today.  The follow-up to that was, "I will make manifest the man I want to be 10 years by being just that now." - or it was something like that.

So it got me thinking about how I see myself and my life in 10 years.  I want to think about this a little before I post what I think but I thought it such a potent, thought-provoking query I just had to share it here.

So here's the format to the query...

  1. How would you like to envision yourself and your life in 10 years?
  2. If you were that person right now what would you be doing?
  3. What can you do today to incorporate the characteristics and life-circumstances of the man or woman you want to be in 10 years?

Please feel free to post as many times as you want.  I'm interested in what others have to say.  Thanks!

1. Someone with enough money to do all the things I'd like to do, recreationally and philanthropically.

2. Um...if I were that person and had the resources to do those things, I would be doing those things now.

3. Win the Mega Millions jackpot.

So here's the format to the query...

How would you like to envision yourself and your life in 10 years?

-I would like to be in a place in my life where I could limit my responsibilities and do what I wanted with out feeling guilty or like I let my family down...also financially secure...

If you were that person right now what would you be doing?

I think I would be in Hawaii trying to surf...and snorkeling...

What can you do today to incorporate the characteristics and life-circumstances of the man or woman you want to be in 10 years?

Work hard now to get my affairs in order and care for my family while they need me...make some money...live healthy so I am healthy in 10 years...travel a bit more now (if I can work it out)

  • I'm 67 and have a congenital heart defect.  Just 25 years ago the prognisis was death by age 55. Each time I think I'm going to buy the farm there is some miraculous new treatment and they put me back together better than ever.

The question is, will I still be alive.  If I am, then I'd like to be just what I am now - a happy retired woman with lots of friends and interests.  If I'm not then I'd like to be happy in the afterlife.

(not exactly what you were looking for, right?)

I like that quote.   Because I'm of a mature age...I AM the person I want to be and it feels very good in my skin.   I have overcome some very unpleasant/traumatic situations to get to where I am now, mentally.  Physically,  I am healthy (thanks to good genes and lifestyle),  happy ( thanks to greatest hubby in the world and great friends) and peacful (thanks to my faith).

The only negative in my life is where I live and that will change with some abundance, if that's in the cards...if not, then I guess this is where I'm supposed to be....So will make the best of it.

I'll remember you in my prayers.

at age 47 i am sooo done with other peoples drama. haha

i am that person i want to be in 10 years now.

at age 57, id like to be with my bf in a happy relationship - his youngest will be 15 so i will still be raising kids. my girl should be done at UT by then so hopefully i will have my portion of her tuition loans paid off. i will still be working for another 20 years, god willing, hopefully i can maintain my health and keep doing what i do now.

ideally we will be living on a chunk of land out in west texas - outside marfa or maybe alpine. not holding my breath. of course i may be dead by tomorrow. life turns on a dime.

glad you are still here claire, defying those odds. you make CC a better place to be everyday :)

    1. I'm 56yo now. At 66 I hope I'm the exact same person and still working full time. I plan on working well into my 70's for the enjoyment and of course to make money!!

    2. Same thing obviously.

    3. Nothing different.

I guess I will be the first young person to answer. I'm 23 now, and am already some of the person I want to be in 10 years. I try my hardest to practice compassion in all aspects of life. By 33, my husband and I hope to have opened a restaurant (as we're both chefs now) and hire kids/young adults to work for us that haven't had the best life. Kind of a second chance, where they can learn a useful skill and make a decent wage. I also hope in 10 years to finally be a mother. I'm only 23, but I've wanted to be a mother since before I can remember. I had a miscarriage when I was 18 and it still hurts.

As far as what I can do to be that person. I can continue to work hard, save money, practice compassion, and hopefully make some good connections in the business, because it's all about who you know! Hopefully we will be financially stable enough at that point to start popping out some kids too :)

    1. How would you like to envision yourself and your life in 10 years?

I would like to be living in the house my husband and I can call home and grow old in together.  I'd like to be in great physical shape, no longer depressed or having panic attacks.  I'd like to be happy, healthy and comfortable without any worries about my basic needs being met; food, shelter, clothing and living without fear.

    1. If you were that person right now what would you be doing?

I'd be eating healthier meals, growing my veggies in a garden and in a greenhouse, doing an hour of yoga a day and exercising about an hour day, most days.  I'd be sewing new creations with which to decorate my home and I'd prolly give-up on coloring my hair, just let it grow long & gray. EDIT:  And I'd be singing more, maybe taking some classes and learning new things like Kung Fu.

    1. What can you do today to incorporate the characteristics and life-circumstances of the man or woman you want to be in 10 years?

Keep my eyes open, look for opportunity hidden in life's challenges and DON'T PANIC!   Then, at the end of the day, after I've done all that is within my power to do, relax.

I am 52, and my husband and I started our own business 3 years ago.  I hope to spend the next 10 years building the business up, and from age 62 on continue to maintain the business as long as I am enjoying it, then gradually step it down as I age.  I love what I do, so I can't imagine traditional retirement, but I can imagine a more leisurely approach as I get older.

So, I guess, what I see for myself in 10 years is pretty much the same as now -- except of course, then I will be maintaining my healthy weight rather than working towards getting to a healthy weight.

When I was in my early twenties I was asked at my serious job interview where I saw myself in 5 years.  My answer was "working hard and having fun".  And that continues to be my MO after all these years.

I would be 31. A pharmacist, maybe pediatrician specialized, working in a hospital. I would be married...maybe..? or just living the happy and independent life. I would def not have kids yet! too young for me! I would be satisfied and successful, saving money to take trips to Europe. I would have a home church, and a home church family to support me and to be supported.  Right now I'm 21 a junior in college applying to pharmacy school this fall. I will find out in feb! ahhhhh! I am so excited. I am in a sorority and I have some really good friends. I think this life can work out! I hope so, it would be great
    1. I'll be a grandpa.
    2. Tell my older son "Finish law school and get married". Tell my daughter: "Finish medical school and get married". Tell my youngest boy: "Finish your PhD and get married". And yeah I'm doing all that.
    3. Be the best daddy and prepare to be the best grandpa.

I would like to be alive and healthy enough to enjoy my life.  I want to be financially secure enough to travel the world.

I am 44, and I like who I am right now.

Just keep on doing what I am doing.  Maybe move a little more.

I'll be 35 (gag). I want to be a more confident person and to be working for Human Rights Watch, UNICEF (or some other large organization dedicated to helping humanity). If I were that person right now I'd be stoked. To become that person I must simply continue on the path I'm on. The last 6 years of my life has been to make my plan to reach that goal and start down the path. I'm nearing the end of that path and am hoping that through my hard-work and dedication to the cause it will all work out as plan. I also want to have traveled the world extensively. Money is no matter to me if I have a worthwhile career.

      1. I think I'd be the same type of person. I know I'll change some, but I try to be  a good person wth certain quirks, and I'd like that to remain the same. As far as my life... well, I'm 21, so that'd make me 31. I'd like to be married to my current boyfriend, him to be through school so that we could have a young kid or 2 at this point. Still doing my current job, but in an area I'm a little more suited to... a house of our own maybe?

      2. See response 1? I'd be programming...

      3. I think I'm well on my way to being that person. I have a wonderful internship and a wonderful boyfriend. Just waiting for time to happen.

    2. In ten years i'll be 38! I hope to be the owner of a sucessful dog training business, i also hope to be a wife, and a mother. I want to have a nice home outside of Boston, two dogs (maybe three if Murphy lives to be 16 haha, who knows!). I hope to be healthy and fit.

    3. If you were that person right now what would you be doing?
    4. I wouldn't be sitting at this desk in this soul sucking job. I'd be out around the city, visiting people in their homes and teaching them how to train their dogs.

    5. What can you do today to incorporate the characteristics and life-circumstances of the man or woman you want to be in 10 years?
    6. I can keep working at this soul sucking job so i get my year end bonus to pay for my dog training school that i'll be starting in january. Then i can stay here another year, and hopefully use next year's bonus to help buy a house. Once i finish dog training school, and start establishing myself in the business, i'll eventually be able to get away from this desk for good.

i can also continue to love my awesome boyfriend, because i'm quite sure he'll still be with me in 10 years.

      Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
