Whos gonna get your vote, come november?
just curious..
WELL THE STATUS QUO RIGHT NOW IS BUSH-CRIMINAL CHENEY-CRIMINAL ROVE-CRIMEMAL ETC.ETC' THEY SHOULD ALL BE IN JAIL AND THE LYING THAT MCCAIN HAS DONE ALREADY ABOUT OBAMA PROVES HE IS NO DIFFERRENT. HE CANT AFFORD TO BE HE'S GETTING HIS MONEY FROM THE SAME PEOPLE AS BUSH!!AS FAR AS MCCAIN BEING PRO-CHOICE THAT MIGHT BE WHAT HE SAYS BUT HE IS GOING TO APPOINT RIGHT-WING JUDGES JUST LIKE BUSH SO YOU CAN KISS IT GOODBYE!! I DON'T SEE OBAMA AS A CRIMAMAL SO THATS AN IMPROVEMENT!!
I hope your right Cis. I hope Obama will be the catalyst for change. I hope he will move the country in the right direction.
I’m just not getting my hopes up.
WOW Cis... lay off the caps. You're not really helping your Obama cause.
Anyway like always, it comes down to the lesser of the two evils.
"Recent tax cuts for rich families should be repealed to help pay for universal health care/other federal projects"
Stupid question... they should have just left it at, should or shouldn't it be repealed. This kind of compound question can result in an unanswerable question.
In my case, YES I want it repealed, but NO not to spend on more crud we can't afford right now...
Right now apparently I lean McCain.

This is a quote, for some reason the quote box is gone: This is my response: I'm not a one issue voter, but as a person with a uterus it IS a main issue for me. I know it's currently up to the Supreme Court and I would prefer "a universal right to abortion" over state to state rights becuase I don't trust those red states to be as pro-choice as you say they are given free reign, precisely because of what South Dakota tried to pull. Edited for some attempt at clarity.I understand, but I don't see any pro-life candidate trying to take away the right of choice to anyone soon...Bush didn't even try. Well, I guess he technically did by getting really right-wing judges in the supreme court, but if anyone really tried to ban it there would be such a cross-fire that no one would want to deal with. In Oregon they tried to pass a parental-knowledge/consent law a couple years ago and it failed. I don't think abortion is really under attack except for by the religious right...which doesn't have much of a stronghold like people think they do.
Oh and McCain IS for stem cell research, something that most right-wingers are against. Not sure why he's pro-life and for stem cell research, but at least thats a step in the right direcion.
They've found you can get stem cells now from means other than embryos, which might be why McCain is for it.
Bush appointed the judges that banned partial birth abortion, which, despite what Ron Paul claims, are done when the woman's health is in danger.
Hopefully you're right that no one would want to deal with an outright banning, but I say better safe than in a back alley when it comes to not choosing candidates who feel that way.

OBAMA IF YOU WANT LOWER TAXES FOR ANYONE WHO MAKES LESS THAN $250000 A YEAR AND HIGHER TAXES FOR ANYONE THAT MAKES MORE THAN THAT. IF YOU WANT SS TO SURVIVE McCAIN WANTS TO PRIVATISE IT. ANYONE THAT WANTS MONEY TO BE SPENT IN THIS COUNTRY ON WINDMILLS AND SOLAR PANELS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR VAST COAL RESOURCES! WHICH CAN BE BURNED CLEANLY WITH NEW TECHNOLOGY. AND WILLMAKE MILLIONS OF JOBS AND MAKE US LESS DEPENDENT ON FORIEGN OIL! ANYONE WHO WANTS AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE FOR EVERYBODY. ANY BODY WHO IS SICK OF WHAT THE CRIMINALS RUNNING OUR COUNTRY NOW OUR CONTINUING TO DO! AND WILL DO THE SAME UNDER MCCAIN. ANYONE WHO WANTS THEIR CIVIL RIGHTS BACK AND DONT WANT TO BE LED BY A BUNCH OF BIBLE THUMPERS. ANYONE WITH A BRAIN THAT ACTUALLY KNOWS WHATS GOING ON!!! IS THAT ENOUGH?? YOU REALLY NEED TO STOP GUESSING ABOUT THIS AND FIND OUT WHERE THESE CANDIDATES STAND , YOU'LL PROBABLY BE SUPPRISED!! OH I FORGOT PRO-CHOICE AND STEM-CELL RESEARCH!! OBAMA OBAMA OBAMA!!!
1. Locate the capslock button + turn it off
2. I will not recieve social security, and my parents probably will not either. Privatizing it is the best way to go, since the tax money that I am paying is now going to people buying vacation home in Tahiti, and I will NEVER see my tax money. If I could spend my tax money and put it into a separate account ensuring that I can obtain the money I spend for it, and every worker does the same, we wouldn't have the problems that we will soon be having after the baby boomers suck the funds dry.
3. Affordable health care does not = good healthcare. Norway, Sweden, etc have great healthcare systems that are socialized. Norway and Sweden also have considerably LESS people than the US. Universal healthcare would be a DISASTER. I have Kaiser Permanente right now, the main medicare/medicaid insurance (my dad's work pays for it, and we used to have a great private practice) and guess how long it takes before I can book an appointment....for MY personal doctor, a month. If it's an emergency 2-3 days. This is how it will be for EVERYONE.
3. McCain is for stem cell research
4. Calling McCain a bible thumper is pretty ignorant...he is not a part of the religious-right, unlike the Bush's. Jeremiah Wright anyone??? At least McCain's pastor isn't a complete nut job...

Fair enough
2. The Social Security system works. The reason why you (or I) will not receive our SS is because the government spent all of it. They failed us. The system didn’t fail us. Privatization could work in theory but who is going to watch Big Business to make sure they don’t squander our money like our government did? What’s to prevent these companies who’d control our funds from going bankrupt and taking our cash with them? There’s a need for a watchdog when it’s privatized just like when the gub’ment controls it. If people played by the rules we wouldn’t be in this mess.
3. Have you ever lived in a country with social medicine? What does having “too many people” mean? I don’t understand your logic.
3. He sure is.
4. I don’t think any politician is very religious. They play like they are, but they aren’t. McCain did hang out with Jerry “the nutbag” Falwell though.
Actually the main problem with social security is that the current generation of benefit recipients is paid for by the next generation of recipients. It was NEVER funded, it was always a transfer of wealth from the younger generation to the older.
It's basically a ponzi scheme, which means for all practical purposes means it only "works" as long as our population continues to expand at a sufficient rate. Sooner or later someone will get left holding the bag.
You're better off scrapping SS benefits and then eliminating taxes on the first 50-75k a senior citizen earns and providing serious incentives to saving for individuals with a gross income under 100k.
The big issue that people always bring up is the boomers and how there are so dang many of them so SS is going to dry up. This is where I get all bumfuzzled. Since there were so many boomers in the work force (men and women) there should have been a surplus of SS money being paid in. Right? In the early days of the boomers working life, many seniors didn’t qualify to receive pension (and many more people didn’t qualify for unemployment). So essentially the boomers, at that time, were paying in a lot of money but it only went to very few people.
Later the rules changed and more people qualified. But still there was a huge workforce paying in every month. So there should have been a surplus of money. Inflation ate up some of it, this I know, but not all of it. Couldn’t have. So what happened to it?
Maybe you can explain why there wasn’t a surplus of money. It doesn’t add up right to me and I’ve asked numerous people and no one has an answer.
1. Congress banned partial birth abortion, not judges. The US Supreme Court just held that the law was constitutional.
2. The justices that upheld the ban were Kennedy, Roberts, Alito, Scalia and Thomas. Kennedy, who authored the opinion, was appointed by Reagan, as was Scalia. Thomas was appointed by the elder Bush. Only Alito and Roberts were appointed by GW Bush ... and, of course, let's not forget that both of them were confirmed by a Senate controlled by democrats.
3. Although Congress had extensive hearings on the procedure and concluded it was never medically necessary, the law nonetheless does allow doctors to show that the procedure was medically necessary in any given case, which is the main reason why the court held that the law was generally constitutional. The court did keep open the possibility that a doctor could challenge a particular application of the law as unconstitutional.
Read the case if you're interested in what the law is really about.
The money was not "paid in" to Social Security. It was paid into the general treasury of the U.S. Government. And so, the U.S. government spent it on other things.
It's pretty much that simple.
But then again, the social security system screws us by taking our money (and our employers' money) throughout our working lives and returning a fraction of it to us later on when the government decides we're old enough to deserve it back. Every person in America would be on better financial footing if instead of paying into the SS system, they used the same money to buy U.S. treasury bonds at a 5% annual rate of return. So the system itself is also screwing us.
SS is just a scam to create an enormous, unrestricted revenue stream into the federal coffers so that government can keep growing. It's basically no different from your income tax that way.
One of the guys running is going to get shot and the other one will most likely expire from old age.
i say, in honor of CalorieCount.com, we vote for the candidate who is able to provide us with the most adequate way of losing weight FAST~
I will definetly be voteing for Obama. If you vote for McCain you might as well elect Bush for another term. Our economy is already gotten so bad from this war and McCain thinks we should go to war with Russia now, NOT a good idea. I think we need someone in office who is going to change things and I think Obama can do that.

Lys, you're right but from my understanding it's not supposed to be an enormous unrestricted revenue stream. The government just treats it as such.
In 1935 greater than 50% of the white male senior citizens where living below the poverty line. The measure was designed to lift them out of this. Widows too I think...
The program was limited in scope and it's not like people normally lived off it for more than 5 years anyway (our life expectancy is up 20 years since the 1935).
After that it got expanded to cover more people and more special needs. Realizing they'd be in for a world of hurt if they didn't control this mess, they did in fact establish a trust fund for surpluses a few years later.
We had stagflation followed by the cold-war in the late 70's and early 80's so our leaders decided that we A) didn't need to be on the gold standard and B) didn't need to have the SS trust fund to be part of the general budget (ie. it's optional: and if it's optional, it's not going to get paid)
Anyway, long story short. It was a gimme to the voting class of the mid 30's, not unlike the minority grants we have today, later expanded to something more universal (read: expensive and even more inefficient). In the 80's they needed money, so instead of having the balls to legislate away the obligation, they just legislated away the requirement to pay for it... All the while this could have been done more elegantly with a refundable tax credit and lower tax liabilities on senior citizens AND without some fancy new gov't organization (FDR needz moar jobz).
