OK...I admit it, when it comes to abbreviations I am one of the worst at figuring out what the hell they mean!

I often just walk away from the conversation, because I can't be bothered to google...Again!

I think this is one of the main reasons I never got into texting, & probably why people would get annoyed that I didn't reply to said text...Erm cause I didn't understand it!

What ever happened to the 'Word'....

I also hate when people shorten a persons name, i.e. if their name is Margaret & someone calls them Mags, Marg etc. Grr I feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand up!

If you wish to offer some regularly used abbreviations and what they mean, this could prove helpful also.

OK IDN :D

I

My name always gets cut - My name is Marianne - only my mother can call me Mari- that is just a fact.  If someone is trying to get my attention by calling Mari I will not hear it - honestly unless it is my mother's voice.  I remember in first grade while all the kids were writing their names on their paper they only had nice short 3 - 5 letters to write, oh no mine is 8 so I cut it to Mari and my mother ripped me a new one - yet she calls me Mari all the time, but only her.  My brothers, sister and everyone else in my life needs to call me by my full name or I will not reply.

Truth and WORD!!!

I had to look up ID10T.. I was PO'd.. I have to look up just about all of them.. And I still don't get how anyone makes Jack out of John Patrick...May he RIP..

I had to look up IRL in real life.. seriously..

and someone else used PITA and I thought they were sandwiches.. at least for a minute or two..

IKR!

How about abbreviations for restaurants -.- like subway. Every single time I go there I order a BMT. I dont even know what it stands for haha

Damn you..

I know, right? ;)

Trying to figure out the title of this thread...

"What the hell does that mean"? :D?

I love abbreviations. I am also someone who will call someone a nickname... if you're name is Brittany, I'll probably say "hey Britt!!!"...

Well I don't hate them, I'm just so bad at figuring them out :D

I do cringe at name shortening though.

TARDIS!!!

I'm laughing because before I knew what this thread was about, I spent a fair amount of time figuring out what the hell wrhdtm stood for. Light bulb.

I'm relatively new to this online chat world. I really thought abbreviations were a part of the online chat culture and I had to get on board. :). Maybe we need an abbreviation/acronym decoder thread?

I don't have this problem, since my name is already short, but it annoys me too. If it happened to me, I would correct them once and just not reply if they would keep doing it.

As for abbreviations - don't like them, very rarely use them.

Ooh I know that one 'Time And Relative Dimension In Space' - Do I win?!!

I always thought LOL was Lots Of Love!

All the MIL, SIL, BIL, DH, DS, DD took me time to figure out.

(Mother-In-Law, Sister-In-Law, Brother-In-Law, Darling Husband, Darling Son, Darling Daughter - well I think! I'm not sure if the D is for Darling or Dear, can someone tell me?)

Ha ha!

Yeah...Hurmph! it is getting so bad, I can't help but wonder how long it will be before entire conversations are made up abbreviations...can you imagine!

rugttst?

nitiwliut.  Tongue out

I always thought it stood for "Dear", but I suppose either way would work.

Texting with my kids is always an adventure.  My daughter (10 years old!) seems to have been born knowing acronyms.  Her mom... not so much.

Here's a great site to help:

http://www.netlingo.com/acronyms.php

Although Urban Dictionary is waaaaaaay more fun :P

As a nurse I have spoken in Medical Speak acronyms for decades.  The transition to Net/Text Speak acronyms isn't a problem.

As far as nick names - my name is Margaret.  I keep a running list on my home computer of nick names I have been given over the years.  I think I'm up to 25-26 at this point.  Doesn't bother me - I find it a source of amusement.

Any time I see "smh" I immediately think "so much hate." I have to look it up every.single.time.

Regarding names and nicknames, I have an uncle named Raymond but we call him Chip.

Allergy Remedies
Is It Possible to Go Natural?
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
