Can Zimmerman get a fair trial?

Quote  |  Reply

Forget the facts of the case for a moment. We don't know them and therefore any further discussion is futile (and I know how you all hate futility).

My understanding is that the prosecutor will forego a grand Jury and decide whether or not to move forward with charges on her own. I have no doubt charges will be brought. She must, or there will be riots in the street, right? Carry this logic forward and eventually you come to the point where "the jury must convict or the State goes up in flames".

Zimmerman has gone underground and fired his lawyers. I'd hide too.

Can Zimmerman get a fair trial?

It's Rush Radio - nothing out of the ordinary.

Local morning duo -> Glenn Beck -> Rush -> Sean Hannity -> Jason Lewis -> some annoying nobody

Those aren't guys I typically listen to. I do think that unfiltered the message they are sending out might be a little different than the ones that are transcribed onto cc threads.

I used to also listen to Boortz and sometimes even Savage, but the station they were on recently switched to Spanish language programming.

I don't understand the bolded statement. How many martinis is this lunch?

I was trying to say (as delicately as I possibly could) that when you say "all the right wing radio talk shows say he should go free" that this is actually your interpretation of what they are saying and might not be an unbiased transfer of the message.

And I was also trying to say that I lurve you very much no matter how much message filtering you do......Embarassed

I'm gonna say it's a 4 martini lunch and I'm woefully slow on the uptake.

Buck, I didn't say 'all the right wing radio shows..."

I said, 'on right wing radio..."

Now, if you want to tell me that I'm not listening to a right-enough wing of radio, that's your opinion and you can certainly have it. But I think the line up I just listed is a pretty fair sampling of the most listened to right-wing hosts.  Why don't you tell me which right wing radio shows *you* listen to.

It's only because I lurve you so very much that I think you should be careful about how you filter my messages!  Tongue out  Aspecially after three or fo martinis!

I think he can.  I have a lot of respect for jurors.  My experience is that they take their responsibility very seriously and aren't swayed much by outside influences.  They may disagree heartily on how the law applies to their case and what level of proof is enough in their minds to meet the State's burden, but that is precisely how the jury is supposed to function.

Umm, I don't drink Nomo.

I still, after 4 years, rethink the case I sat for.

Well, I was trying to give you the doubt of the benefit that your cloudy was thinking because of drinking.

I actually don't drink nomo either.

So, upon unscrambling I get this: One would have to be a drunkard to disagree?

Buck, please tell me what you regard as 'real right wing radio'.

And if you care to, you can also explain why you believe that the hosts I listed (now the only broadcast station I have access to) do not represent widely-listened-to right-wing radio.

Thank you.

His lawyers are still speaking for him, are you sure he fired them?

I think the protests will continue until he's charged, and after that, with DOJ watching the proceedings, there will be very little cause for further outrage, so yes, I think he'll get a fair trial. I just hope they don't move it here. Yikes.

I think you're overestimating the level-headedness of the masses. I think there is the very real possibility that bringing charges will only serve to fuel the outrage. Then jury members will fear the repercussions any sort of exeoneration forcing their hands to convict regardless of the facts presented.

Casey was acquitted...

I don't think that a jury will automatically convict.  ------I AGREE

Yep I get you too I just fail to see the humor. The implication that my posts here are the ramblings of a drunkard are insulting and beneath the dignity of  the conversation. I've read what you posted multiple times and I can either interpret it as I have directly above or that you may have had a few at lunch time. But since you've stated you're not a drinker I can only assume you mean me.

If I may?

I think Nomo took exception to your insinuation that she misrepresented the opinions of the radio hosts to whom she listens. Nomo would take such a suggestion very seriously as she tries to keep an open mind and look at both sides of an issue before she comments.

Rather than getting offended by what could reasonably be considered an insult to her intellectual integrity, she decided to make a joke instead.

Anyway that's my take.

First, you suggested that I wasn't listening to real right wing radio.

Then, you said that even though you had not listened to any of the (syndicated) hosts on my local station, that I had mis-characterized what they said.

Now, you tell me who is insulting whom.

And, I am still in the dark about what it takes to qualify as "real right wing radio" in your opinion, so whatever protests you're making about my reporting of what I did actually listen to on the radio just yesterday afternoon, you have yet to make a meaningful statement that I can evaluate against my experience.

Maybe not if they try him in/near the community where this happened.

I hope his side will push for a change of venue or something like that.

"real right wing radio" shows up twice. One time even in quotes. Who are you quoting? Cause the drunkard never said any such thing.
There's your filtering.

I raised this issue in the other thread about him.

I don't see how he can possibly get a fair trial, the seed has been planted. His only hope would be for it to be called as a mistrial...well it would if it was over here.

The thing is he didn't act outside the law, however I still say that someone with a mental state to over reaction should never have been permitted to arm themselves, but that is a State issue, not a Zimmerman one.

Florida is too lax about everything.

Any yahoo can have a pet lion there.

It's really hard to say.

If Zimmerman was super rich, he would definitely get a fair trial.

Ahh, Nomo, I think you've overlooked something. Part of the problem is that Zimmerman is white. Imagine the outrage if he were both white and rich.....

Everyone keeps saying that, but Zimmerman is not white..he's simply not black.

He's Hispanic.
