TOFU

Tofu always comes out tasteless and unappetizing when I make it.

What do you guys do? Any yummy recipes?

I enjoy the taste of plain cold firm (organic) tofu.

But I try to limit consumption, cause it's overly processed, and often comes from genetically modified, and contaminated soy beans (unless organic).... it's really not very healthy. But it is still better than fake/mock meat products.

Tempeh (fermented soy bean cake) is a MUCH healthier form of soy... and tastier too.

You've gotta pan fry tofu.  In my opinion.  ;)  Just a small amount of oil, a pinch of salt, and a hot pan gives it a nice crunchy crust.  You can also lightly bread it with whatever seasonings you like.  This chili lime tofu recipe is quite nice.

I don't mind a little small cubed silken tofu in something like a vegetable miso soup.  But otherwise, I stay away from silken and soft tofus except for the rare occasion I use it for baking (pumpkin pie, for example, comes out great with some silken tofu instead of eggs).  People put it in smoothies too, but that's not really my thing.

You can also freeze tofu.  When you thaw it out, you can wring it out like a sponge and it completely changes the texture and flavor - makes it more chewy and nutty.  You can marinate the frozen tofu or braise it in something delicious and it'll pick up all the flavors.  Best of all is to batter it and fry it ... but this is a calorie counting website, so that's all I'll say about that.  :D
