should I gain?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi, I'm a 16 year old girl and weigh 96lbs at 5"2, giving me a BMI of 17.5, I haven't had a period in like, 9 months and my upper half looks a little bony, but my thighs are healthy sized, so should I gain, and if so-how much and how many cals should I eat?

Hey =)

Yes you should gain, anything under a BMI of 20 is underweight.  Teenagers are recomended to eat 3000 calories a day to gain weight.  Most people find it easiest to split this up into 3 meals and 3 snacks.

Hope this helps!

^false. anything under a bmi of 18/18.5(cant remember) is underweight. it also depends. do you eat a lot? how much? are you naturally that way? these are all factors to consider

Hey =)

I thought it was anything under 18.5 as well, but my doctor says its 20, so I think you should listen to her and go for that.  Shes a psychiatrist who specialises in ED's so she knows what she is talking about.

Good luck!

My doctor said that anything under 20 is underweight, and I have been told that I look too thin at a BMI of 19 even, so maybe 20 is better to aim for for me than 18.5, thanks for the advice !
