Metabolism Question...

I was just wondering what would happen if I consistently ate 2500-3000 calories everyday. How long would it take for my metabolism to speed up? Would I have to eat this amount for months? Or would just a week or two do it? I've been undereating a little bit lately and would like to start eating more and for my metabolism to speed up a bit. I don't really care about gaining weight- I could probably use some extra weight anyways :) 

I'm a 16 year old female, and I've previously been eating about 1300-1400 calories and losing about 1/4-1/2 pound every week. 

Thanks in advance to anyone who can give me some insight about how this works. :)

okay so about 1500-1700 for you would be maintenance. remember 3500 = 1 pound of body weight (this doesnt include water weight/food weight which may come a long with the increase in calories if you bump it up that fast) so if you ate 2500-3000 calories a day that is about a 1000 calories surplus which would be about 2 pounds a week. but this is jsut what science says. try it out if you want and see how your body responds. i would suggest trying it out for at least a month cuz the first 2 or 3 weeks will be different than the last 2 or 3 (you will gain a lot more in the beginning, its like loosing weight)

 

what are you age, height and activity level?

I'm 16, 5'9", and probably somewhere between sedentary and lightly active.

okay. so probably what i said will apply. so you can give it a try. but you will most likley gain weight pretty qucikly and it will basically all be fat.  so dont be surprised if you put on 10 pounds in 2 weeks and it seems to go to ur gut... thats normal

In my experience (and I was losing weight at a similar rate at a similar amount of calories to you) the whole piling on a whole lot of weight in a week didn't actually happen to me. I just jumped up to 2200 calories one week, gained 1 pound, then the next week I maintained. I then increased to 2500, gained a pound a week for a few weeks, then maintained. I'm currently maintaining on 2500ish. 

 

Long story short, in my personal experience, metabolisms adjust fairly quickly. 

Thanks everyone :) I think I'll just keep it around 1500-1700 for maintenance right now and see what happens
