Period returned while still underweight?

Quote  |  Reply

I am 5'2 and 93 pounds up from 88. I had been 97, but stopped counting calories while on vacation and accidentally lost weight. Despite all that, my period returned last week after 5 months. Does anyone have any answers? When I began recovery, I made it my goal to gain until my period came back, and now I'm having a hard time deciding whether to keep going or not :(

What makes you think having a period is a sign of good health?

You mean your ED isn't sure whether to gain. You aren't that stupid to really not know the answer to that question. I was never as small as you are now (my lowest was 93 at 5'1) but I have osteoporosis and an irreversible heart condition which means my heart could stop beating at any minute. You want that? It's not much fun. It's also expensive, frightening, and will lower my quality of life increasingly as I get older. If I get older, which with this heart problem is not exactly guaranteed.

I'm happy for you that your period came back, but you don't need to even think about whether you should gain more weight. Once you hit BMI 20 you can ask again.

I am 5'3 and when I was 90 pounds I still had my period :)
