i gained 20 pounds very quickly. i go to the gym everyday for at least an hour, but i increased my caloric intake about 300-500cal more. I was underweight tho...like 108 pounds and i am 5'7. Now I am 127 haha. I look a lot better tho.
ANYWAYS, I was just wondering if this is normal weight gain?
If you don't mind me asking though, how many are you eating now?
We have the same height and my nutritionist told me that 130 should be a healthy starting weight....soo you are getting there! Good JOB!!
Thanks! i eat 1800-2000cal. a day. I use to eat a strict 1500-1600. which some people eat normally, but I guess my body needs more. I saw a snapshot of myself at 108lbs and was super skinny and unattractive! haha call it a vanity thing, but whatever. i like my butt now. ![]()
i cant believe i allowed myself to get that skinny. i asked my boyfriend the other day if he noticed the difference (like i said it happened in the duration of one school quarter...short time) and he said he loved me regardless, but i look a lot healthier now. I feel like i have a lot more energy, too.
Congrats on the weight gain! It's always wonderful to hear success stories!
Wow! I am SOOO in the same boat. I was at 103 (I'm 5'7") and I just got sick of eating 1000 cal a day and I bumped it up to 1600 on nonexcersise days and 2000 on excersise days. I gained up to 125 in FOUR WEEKS!! I started to freak out a little, but I just stopped weighing myself and I'm starting to feel better about myself, even though sometimes I still feel like a whale.
I'm thrilled to hear that you're doing so well!
Yes, as Linny said, quick weight gain is normal. Everyone is different and while some people gain slowly others gain at pretty quick rates. I gained 20lbs ina month early in recovery! It's actually a lot nicer to get it over with quickly. I reached a plateau after my quick gain and quickly got sick of trying so hard and stuffing myself. Be glad to have your life back so quick....it's a gift!:]
Have you confirmed that this weight is okay with your doctor? 127 at 5'7 is a tidbit low, though some people are just naturally thin. As long as your doc says that you're healthy and safe you're in a good place.
If I keep eating at around 1600 (which is what I gained to 125 on, and what I lost to 115 on, previosly) will my weight start to go down again if I don't up my calories?

Most likely, though 125 is pretty darned skinny at your height already. Your best bet would be maintenance now.
1600 is really low for gaining that much; teens should really be eating 1800 minimum when looking to simply maintain. Do you still get bloated? Your body might not have come out of starvation mode yet.
I don't get bloated anymore and I'm still eating 1600. Is that bad?
i still get super bloated. it hurts soooooooo bad and looks like im pregnant. what does that mean?

Not necessarily. If you feel that it's best, you can continue eating 1600 (it's your body, not mine, plus it's only 200 under 1800) and accept whatever happens. You might not reduce in weight, but your body might like where you are right now and want to stay there. If you're feeling well and your body isn't showing signs of malnourishment you're fine.:]

It means that your body still doesn't trust you to feed it, or you have some sort of Gi issue going on. It would be a good idea to go see a doctor about it.
Why can't I gain weight?! I don't need to gain that quickly, I think that would freak me out. But I've been eating well over 2000 and up to 3000 on days i do a little exercise, though for the most part I'm pretty inactive. I've gone from about 101 to 103 in the last 3 months :\
I don't know what else to do!
But congrats everyone else for the healthy weight gaining! Hopefully I'll get there soon and be able to post pics of a new healthy me :)
hey gibbit...i was scared ****-less to gain bc all i could think of was LOVEHANDLES ahhhh. i am an active person tho so getting 'fat' never arose an an issue. i look like i did at 107 but my bones arent protruding. one of my secrets was eating right b4 bed so i didnt feel icky or bloated. i just slept on it.
Thats sort of been my strategy too, I figure if I get a stomacheache I can just sleep through it, and I still do try and cram in as much as I can before bed, but I think it actually interferes with my sleeping. I've been trying to eat a little earlier, though it hasn't really been working. But when it does work and I have at least 30 minutes of digestion time before laying down I've found I sleep better. Otherwise I'm constantly waking up.
I went to see yet another nutritionist today. She's the second one who's just been like yeah I don't know what to tell you because you're already doing everything you can for yourself....I'm eating all the right foods, and the quantity I eat should be making me gain weight. I also need to call my doctor though because I'm on thyroid medication but maybe the dosage needs to be increased.
I'll take any weight gain advice I can get though, thanks!
thats exactly what my doctor said. i was eating at 1600cals a day, but i guess i was burning a lot more (e.g. my running all over campus + i was running exercise-wise.) i eat healthfully and never skip a meal. personally i think i was pushing myself too hard. i am a light sleeper, and it was hard 4 me to digest also. plus i would get really vivid dreams after eating close to bed. i think your 30 minutes wait period sounds good tho. lots of luck and feel free to k.i.t.
I'm struggling too! I'm stuck at the same weight! It sucks! I actually lost like 2 pounds yesterday! WHAT THE HECK?! I just gotta keep eating.
lol.. Yeah me too man. I was 185 and I ended up going down to 169 within few months.. I mean, my goal was to cut down after bulking up.... Befo u know it I lost way too much, ran too much, eat too less and when I finally had my six pack at 169 I looked skinny n no mass.... I'm back to bulking up, is tough, but gaining 20lbs in 3 wks is insane, you are more than likely to loose all that once you stop for a week...
i would definitely be losing at 1600 a day, not to mention hungry! The thing is I'm at 3000 and the only exercise I do is yoga once or twice a week and once in a while I give in and go bike riding but I'll only ride for like 30 minutes tops because I've gotten so out of shape. I'm trying to do as little cardio as possible to I don't undo all my eating.
Weird thing is I weighed myself yesterday and I'm still only at 100 lbs, but I could swear my clothes are tighter! I was getting excited about that before, but it might just be bloat. Which I've also been having MAJOR problems with the last few days :\ it really hurts! I know everyone goes through this, but when does it end? And are there certain foods that have seemed to cause less bloat than others for all of you?
That's fine. I gained about 30 pouds in a month while IP.
