Acai Berry for weight loss?

Hello, I've just bought these acai berry tablets that apparantly help you with slimming. I didn't buy from any of the free trial sites that are just there to scam you, I bought them from 'health span' who are trusted.

 However, they say nothing on the pack about helping you to loose weight, are these the same as all the other acai berry tablets our there that do claim to help you loose weight or are these missing something?

Either way i'm not too fussed as they sound really good for you, just wanted to know if anyone else has tried them and do they actually work?

Hi there, a few years ago , before the acai berry hit the shelves in pill form,

I was a sales representative for MONAVIE which was bottled fruit juice with the main componant being the acai berry kind of like goji juice but far more beneficial to the body. The pill form has a very low percentage of the nutrients that the acai berry contains so the likely hood of you loosing weight because of it is very low. thats why many people are selling the acai pills along with a detoxer, and you would find that it will be the detoxing of your body that would have a effect on your weight loss. I knew a man who was extremely obese however and was to have no food at all and only drank the monavie acai berry juice whenever he wanted or felt the need , this was very safe becasue the juice contains all the nutrients and vitamins you need. research MONAVIE i still drink it to this day and find its very beneficial health wise. 

Ah that's a shame. I looked these acai berry tablets up on various different sites and they all said good things so I assumed they would be the same thing. I know some of them are with green tea so I thought maybe taking them and drinking green tea at the same would work the same. I'll look up MONAVIE though, thanks.

Well, I have not used them.  But I heard that they are good.  But beware of fake pills. 

Suggest that you do some research over the pills first.  Do not just listen to the name "Acai Berry".  Do check out the ingredients as well.  For some pills, they can have little content of acai berry and many of others that may not be good for health.  So, the effects of the pills will not be as good as what reports say it will be. 

It's better to be careful before we pop pills!  Put in some effort in research first.  ;p

I looked up all the ingredients and the main one is acai extract and all the rest are used to make it into tablet form, like hold it all together etc. I cant see anything dangerous in it, mainly things like glycerin - of vegetable origin but does the acai berry actually make you loose weight?

If you're SURE it doesn't have anything harmful in it, just maintain your diet and take it.

Your diet should help you lose weight and you may or may not lose extra weight because of the pills. Treat it like a placebo effect and pretend it works and you'll probably see results with a normal diet and exercise plan.

From what I have read before, Acai Berry does help with weight loss.   So, if the ingredient is purely acai berry and there is no doubt about the origin of the product, it should be save for consumption.

When you start taking the tablet, you should carefully monitor changes that you observe.  For example, feeling thirsty, or energetic or diarrhea etc.  This is important to monitor the effects that you have after consuming the tablet.  Pills may have side effects.  But some are minor and it goes off after a short while. In case severe, make sure seek medical advice immediately.

Oh yes, most importantly, do you have any health conditions?  If yes, make sure you consult your doctor first before taking any pills.

Come on guys, this is a calorie counting website.  You should not be depending on a "magic pill" of any sort to lose weight. 

From an information standpoint, you may wish to check out this website.  The linked page is a balloon graph of various supplement effectiveness.  You'll notice how few supplements are above the "worth it" line.  You'll also notice (if you have good eyes) that acai berry is way the heck down at the bottom in the "evidence: none" category.

Supplements are largely unregulated and you really don't know what you're getting, even for effective ones.  Why not just eat healthy?

I have been doing a lot of reading on acai berries myself.  I have found that they are filled with vitamins and minerals that can help aid in weight loss and building muscle.   The berries are also known to help increase energy and are also rich in antioxidants, fatty acids, fiber and other plant compounds that can only help improve your health.  I have also read that the actual berries are the best intake, then the extract and then the capsule form. 

I just started drinking the natural Acai Juice/extract this week and what I have been doing is drinking 1oz a little shot glass size before I work out.  That and the fact I eat fresh berries everyday especially blueberries I am hoping with everything else I am doing will help me lose weight, so I don’t use the Acai berries as my key to weight loss but the combo of everything I am doing now is the key “my new lifestyle”.  Watching calories intake vs. output, trying to choose my food on that are low on the Glycemic chart, whole grains, no granulated sugar and no refined grains, small portion of red meat once a week, the rest poultry or fish and getting at least 300 mins of exercise a week.  AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER WATER WATER!!!!!!

Even if they do give you a small increase in burn, the effects would be so minimal, that it can't be worth the money. Lightening your wallet isn't really the best way to lose weight.

Not to mention the likelihood that these things are scams - the number of people who have ended up having to cancel their credit cards because they start getting billed for this crap... might as well send your money to a deposed Nigerian prince.

No magic pills, sorry. Your best bet is to watch you calorie intake and exercise.

Take it from someone who lives in Brazil and has researched acai berries.  What you are getting in the juice is barely acai. In its pure form it tastes awful.  And over 90% of the acai is harvested and turned into frozen pulp before it even leaves Para state in the northeast of the country. So on top of everything else you actually believe that all of these vendors are air freighting/shipping by boat the 10% of the remaining crop that hasn't been adulturated.  NO.

Trust me. I have had pure(ACAI PURO) acai. And not pronounced "ah-KAI" but "ah-sah-EE". A friend turned me on to a lunch bar in Rio that only serves delicacies from Para and other parts of the Amazon basin. Including acai puro that they serve plain, mixed with splenda, mixed with guarana(a stimulant) xyrope that has sugar in it or flavorless balls of tapioca.

By the way, I know what I'm talking about. I have ACAI PURO in my freezer that I got at the wholesaler's market. Where restaurants shop. The acai purveyor sells it pure or unadulterated. NO ONE SELLS IT FRESH. NO ONE. It is simply too tough to ship from Para. So that should be the first red flag about these magic pills.

Calories in the pulp: 40 calories in 100 ml.  So if there are more in the smoothy you get from wherever or the juice, you are getting it adulturate or it has already had guarana syrup added by the processor in PARA state.

The way it is prepared low-cal is with ice, 50%/50%, sugar-free guarana syrup or not and splenda/sweet n low to taste and added bananas or strawberries and normally topped with granola or nuts.

How does the real stuff taste? It is hard to describe how actually bitter ACAI actually is. Besides how awful it tastes, it stains everything. Remember those EFFERDENT comercials cleaning dentures. Yep. Just as bad on teeth, cloths, car seats, etc. But sweetened it has a really great flavor that combined with the guarana syrup added in Para gives you about 100cals/100ml.  So 250% in calories when modified at the process point. And most sucos in Rio add even more guarana syrup as well as bananas and granola. MORE SUGAR. And then often they will automatically add sweet strawberry-flavored  topping.  

Ordering an acai in Brasil is a bit like ordering a Starbuck's non-fat, double-shot, venti decaf, soy latte, extra steam with stevia.   You get the idea. One gringo's acai puro with adocante(combo of splenda, sweet n low and trusty and faithful cyclamates) is another gringo's acai com tudo(with everything)!

Don't waste your time or money with this.

Watch your calories and what they consist of instead Smile
